Drawing on our analysis, we see themes that indicate growing support for China to pursue what we might call ?defensive expansion? of China?s presence and influence in Asia, including its military presence and influence. Underlying this support for defensive expansion we see three themes recurring throughout China?s debates over its emerging interests. First, that China?s security community sees its emerging xii | Introduction Introduction | xiii national security interests as increasingly indispensable to China?s future development and power. Second, that China sees many of these interests as increasingly vulnerable or at risk from both traditional and nontraditional threats. And third, that China portrays itself as having exercised much greater restraint in asserting and protecting its interests than many of its neighbors. 606 $aNational security$zChina 606 $aMilitary policy$2fast 606 $aNational security$2fast 607 $aChina$xMilitary policy 607 $aChina$2fast 615 0$aNational security 615 7$aMilitary policy. 615 7$aNational security. 676 $a355.00951 700 $aTanner$b Murray Scot$01035366 702 $aMackenzie$b Peter W. 712 02$aCNA Corporation, 712 02$aMarine Corps University (U.S.).$bPress, 801 0$bGPO 801 1$bGPO 801 2$bGPO 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bOCLCF 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bRIU 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bGPO 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557590203321 996 $aChina's emerging national security interests and their impact on the People's Liberation Army$93528235 997 $aUNINA
