This collection sets out to provide some answers. The authors in this volume question three ultimately connected assumptions of the philosophy of language. The first assumption relates to the predominant status of referential semantics and its power to explain truth-conditional meaning. This assumption has come under attack by the context thesis and a number of papers pursue the question of whether this is justified. The second assumption gives priority to assertive sentences when considering language use. The context thesis changes our understanding of language use altogether; possible implications from this methodological shift are addressed in this volume. According to the third assumption, philosophical analysis amounts to nothing more than conceptual analysis. The context thesis risks undermining this project. Whether conceptual analysis can still be defended as a methodological tool is discussed in this volume. 410 0$aMouton series in pragmatics ;$vVolume 19. 606 $aContext (Linguistics) 606 $aSemantics 610 $aContext Thesis. 610 $aContextualism. 610 $aPhilosophy of Language. 615 0$aContext (Linguistics) 615 0$aSemantics. 676 $a401/.43 702 $aConrad$b Sarah 702 $aPetrus$b Klaus$f1967- 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910795492703321 996 $aMeaning, context and methodology$93857549 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02067nam 2200421z- 450 001 9910557405903321 005 20211118 035 $a(CKB)5400000000043617 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/74192 035 $a(oapen)doab74192 035 $a(EXLCZ)995400000000043617 100 $a20202111d2020 |y 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmn|---annan 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aSmarter Farming: New Approaches for Improved Monitoring, Measurement and Management of Agricultural Production and Farming Systems 210 $cFrontiers Media SA$d2020 215 $a1 online resource (104 p.) 311 08$a2-88966-055-9 330 $aThis eBook is a collection of articles from a Frontiers Research Topic.
