The basic idea is that more carbon can be sequestrated and stocked in tropical forests by improving their conservation, management, and sustainable use, thus contributing to mitigating climate change. The developing countries and relevant stakeholders concerned will be financially compensated for these endeavors, either through public funds or private carbon markets. Given this context, this book will address the need to assess the political and socio?economic dimensions of the performance of REDD+, which is relevant to policy-makers, practitioners, and scholars. This implies taking into account the various levels (from global to local) and dimensions (e.g., results-based payments, MRV, co-benefits, and community engagement), as well as divergent (disciplinary) connotations, of performance. We, therefore, pose the following question: What does performance mean? In answering this question, we provide examples of assessments of performance. We present 9 cases of how REDD has performed on local, national and international scales, and reflect on the representativeness of these examples and their limitations when looking at the current range of REDD initiatives, along with what is missing in terms of evaluating the performance of REDD+. We conclude by establishing why performance assessment remains so relevant today. 517 $aPerformance of REDD+ 606 $aHumanities$2bicssc 606 $aEducation$2bicssc 610 $aREDD+ financial benefits 610 $aindigenous carbon impact 610 $aland grabbing 610 $atenure 610 $asocial safeguards 610 $aforest carbon calibration 610 $aREDD+ 610 $aCCB Standards 610 $aSustainable Development Goals 610 $aclimate change 610 $acommunity 610 $abiodiversity 610 $adevelopment 610 $aforests 610 $ajurisdictional approaches 610 $aprivate sector commitments 610 $acommodity-driven deforestation 610 $atrifecta jurisdictions 610 $asupply chains 610 $apublic-private partnerships 610 $aperformativity 610 $aREDD+ policy 610 $amyths of community 610 $aforest governance 610 $aforest tenure 610 $aproperty rights 610 $aauthority structures 610 $athe DRC 610 $aenvironmental governance 610 $aforest conservation 610 $aclimate change mitigation 610 $apublic policies 610 $aAmazon 610 $aEuropean Union 610 $aforest policy 610 $adeforestation drivers 610 $atropical forests 610 $apractice-based approach 610 $aglobal-local nexus 610 $aforest and climate policy 610 $aGhana 610 $aAmazon Fund 610 $aResults-Based Funding 610 $abenefit distribution 610 $aresource allocation 610 $aclimate change funding 610 $aeffectiveness 610 $aforest conservation funding 615 7$aHumanities 615 7$aEducation 700 $aArts$b Bas$4edt$0280980 702 $aIngram$b Verina$4edt 702 $aBrockhaus$b Maria$4edt 702 $aArts$b Bas$4oth 702 $aIngram$b Verina$4oth 702 $aBrockhaus$b Maria$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557396503321 996 $aThe Performance of REDD+: From Global Governance to Local Practices$93027061 997 $aUNINA
