It is the most reliable alternative to reduce fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Within the framework of the circular economy, resource recovery from organic waste, including sewage sludge, biowaste, manure and slaughterhouse waste, is particularly useful, as it helps saving resources while reducing environmental pollution. In contrast to energy crops, lignocellulosic biomass and algae do not compete for food production; therefore, they represent an important source of biomass for bioenergy and bioproducts. However, biomass may require a pretreatment step in order to enhance its conversion into valuable products in terms of process yield and/or productivity. Furthermore, a pretreatment step may be mandatory for waste management (i.e., animal by-products).Pretreatment technologies are applied upstream of various conversion processes of biomass into biofuels or biomaterials, including bioethanol, biohydrogen, biomethane, biomolecules or bioproducts. Pretreatments may include mechanical, thermal, chemical and biological techniques, which represent a crucial, cost-intensive step for the development of biorefineries. Thus, research is needed to help identify the most effective, economic, and environmentally friendly pretreatment options for each feedstock. This Special Issue aims to gather recent developments of biomass pretreatments for bioproduct and biofuel production. 606 $aTechnology: general issues$2bicssc 610 $aacetic acid 610 $aacid 610 $aacidogenic fermentation 610 $aADM1 610 $aagricultural wastes 610 $aalkali 610 $aanaerobic digestion 610 $aantimicrobial disinfectants 610 $aaqueous ammonia soaking pre-treatment 610 $abiochemical methane potential 610 $abioethanol 610 $abiogas production 610 $abiogas yield 610 $abiomass 610 $abiomethane 610 $abioreactor experiments 610 $abiorefinery 610 $abiorefinery residues 610 $abutyric acid 610 $acitrus peel waste 610 $acontaminants of emerging concern 610 $acontinuous 610 $acrystallinity 610 $adewaterability 610 $adigested manure fibers 610 $adilute alkaline pretreatment 610 $adisintegration 610 $aeconomical assessment 610 $aelectro-Fenton 610 $aenergy balance 610 $aenzymatic hydrolysis 610 $aferric chloride pretreatment 610 $afruit and vegetable harvesting wastes 610 $aglycosyl-hydrolase 610 $agrass biomass 610 $agrass lawn waste 610 $aHRT 610 $ahydrothermal treatment 610 $ainhibition 610 $aionic liquid 610 $alignocellulose 610 $alignocellulosic biomass 610 $alithium 610 $amechanical pretreatments 610 $amicrobial community analysis 610 $amicrowave 610 $amicrowave pretreatment 610 $amodelling 610 $amunicipal sludge 610 $aNaOH pretreatment 610 $ap-hydroxycinnamic acids extraction 610 $aparticulate organics solubilization 610 $aPennisetum alopecuroides 610 $apersonal care products 610 $apH 610 $aphysical properties 610 $apre-treatment 610 $apretreatment 610 $aprocess optimization 610 $apropionic acid 610 $arheology 610 $asaccharification 610 $asecond-generation ethanol 610 $aseparated fractions 610 $asource separated organics 610 $asteam treatment 610 $asugarcane bagasse 610 $asurface ion distribution 610 $atandem mass spectrometry 610 $athermal pretreatment 610 $athermo chemical pretreatment 610 $aToF-SIMS 610 $atriclosan 610 $aultra-high performance liquid chromatography 610 $avalorisation 610 $avolatile fatty acids 610 $awaste activated sludge 610 $awhole slurry 615 7$aTechnology: general issues 700 $aFerrer$b Ivet$4edt$01322269 702 $aEskicioglu$b Cigdem$4edt 702 $aAntonopoulou$b Georgia$4edt 702 $aBattimelli$b Audrey$4edt 702 $aFerrer$b Ivet$4oth 702 $aEskicioglu$b Cigdem$4oth 702 $aAntonopoulou$b Georgia$4oth 702 $aBattimelli$b Audrey$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557332403321 996 $aEfficient Technology for the Pretreatment of Biomass II$93034733 997 $aUNINA
