HAT has a reputation for spectacular reappearances, and the latest peak of 40,000 reported and over 300,000 estimated cases only dates back to 1998. Efforts of the WHO and partners as well as the development of simpler and much better-tolerated treatments, improved diagnostics, and vector control tools made it possible to reduce this number by 95%. Case identification and confirmation remain complex and require specific skills, treatment remains error-prone and reports on long-term survivors have emerged, and the relevance of the animal reservoir for T. b. gambiense HAT needs clarification. In addition, to win the "end game" against this massively stigmatized disease, the human factor will play a key role. This Special Issue addresses many of the burning topics about disease elimination in its 12 research and 7 review articles and one case study. The papers critically reflect the approaches used, investigate the mentioned challenges, and propose novel approaches and interventions from various points of view. 517 $aHuman African Trypanosomiasis 606 $aEpidemiology and Medical statistics$2bicssc 606 $aMedicine and Nursing$2bicssc 610 $a(+)-spectaline 610 $aacoziborole 610 $aactive follow-up strategy 610 $aadverse event 610 $aAfrican sleeping sickness 610 $aAfrican trypanosomiasis 610 $aanimal reservoirs 610 $aapoptosis 610 $aassociation study 610 $aautophagy 610 $ablood-brain barrier 610 $abrain permeability 610 $acase detection 610 $aCATT positive serological suspects 610 $achemotherapy 610 $aclinical research 610 $across-talk 610 $adevelopment of treatment 610 $adiagnosis 610 $adisease elimination 610 $adisease eradication 610 $adonor policy 610 $aDR Congo 610 $adrug discovery 610 $adrug resistance 610 $adrugs 610 $aelimination 610 $aembodiment 610 $aencephalopathy 610 $aeradication 610 $aexpertise 610 $afexinidazole 610 $aflagellar pocket 610 $afrontline workers 610 $ag-HAT 610 $aHaemoparasites 610 $ahealth system strengthening 610 $ahigh-throughput screening 610 $ahistory 610 $ahome-based treatment 610 $ahuman Africa trypanosomiasis 610 $ahuman African trypanosomiasis 610 $aHuman African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) 610 $ahuman leukocyte antigen 610 $airon 610 $aiso-6-spectaline 610 $amedical history 610 $amedical innovation 610 $amelarsoprol 610 $amobile screening 610 $amydriasis 610 $an/a 610 $aneglected tropical diseases 610 $aneurological signs 610 $anutritional immunity 610 $aoligosymptomatic HAT 610 $apafuramidine 610 $apatient-centred care 610 $apharmacology 610 $aphenotypic drug screening 610 $apolitical history 610 $aproduct development partnerships 610 $aqualitative methods 610 $ar-HAT 610 $are-emergence 610 $aresearch and development 610 $asequelae 610 $aserendipity 610 $aserology 610 $asleeping sickness 610 $aSouth Sudan 610 $asuramin 610 $asymptoms 610 $aT. b. gambiense 610 $aT. b. rhodesiense 610 $atransferrin 610 $atransferrin receptor 610 $atreatment 610 $atreatment-seeking 610 $atrypanosoma brucei 610 $aTrypanosoma brucei 610 $aTrypanosoma brucei rhodesiense 610 $aTrypanosoma growth inhibitors 610 $atrypanosomosis 610 $aUganda 615 7$aEpidemiology and Medical statistics 615 7$aMedicine and Nursing 700 $aBurri$b Christian$4edt$01330862 702 $aBurri$b Christian$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557288503321 996 $aHuman African Trypanosomiasis (Sleeping Sickness)$93039989 997 $aUNINA
