Our better understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms and the advances in neuro-imaging have enabled us to diagnose stroke syndromes with remarkable precision and uncover underlying vessel pathologies that can be directly correlated to the stroke event. Within a short period of time, mechanical thrombectomy became the standard of care for patients with large vessel occlusions and symptom onset up to 24 hours, while other recent trials also suggest the use of perfusion imaging to guide intravenous thrombolysis in the extended time window. In this Special Issue, we will also extensively discuss relevant topics on secondary stroke prevention, including the prompt use of nonvitamin k oral anticoagulants and the potential effect of reversal agents in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage related to their use. We will also delineate treatment options for stroke patients with indication for long-term anticoagulation and high bleeding risk. Finally, a particular mention will be made for young patients with stroke, the extent of the diagnostic work-up, and the selection of those who would benefit from patent foramen ovale closure. 606 $aMedicine$2bicssc 610 $aatrial fibrillation 610 $acerebral infarction 610 $acarotid stenosis 610 $aultrasonography 610 $aoutcomes 610 $acryptogenic stroke 610 $aneurosonology 610 $aHolter monitoring 610 $atranscranial Doppler 610 $acervical duplex 610 $astroke 610 $ahemorrhage 610 $athrombectomy 610 $acone-beam computed tomography 610 $acerebral angiography 610 $aplatelet reactivity 610 $aischemic stroke 610 $aaspirin resistance 610 $ainfarction volume 610 $amultiplate 610 $areperfusion 610 $atherapy 610 $aoutcome 610 $aintravenous thrombolysis 610 $aNIHSS 610 $aBarthel index 610 $afunctional dependence 610 $aultrasound 610 $aacute ischemic stroke 610 $aperfusion imaging 610 $acontrast agent 610 $aintracerebral hematoma 610 $asubarachnoid hemorrhage 610 $alarge vessel disease 610 $aclinical outcome 610 $aprognosis 610 $afunctional magnetic resonance imaging 610 $aneuronal plasticity 610 $arecovery of function 610 $amotor cortex 610 $aankle-brachial index difference 610 $ainter-ankle blood pressure difference 610 $aperipheral artery disease 610 $aanemia 610 $ablood transfusion 610 $ared blood cells 610 $aoutcome assessment 610 $aendothelial progenitor cells 610 $aatherosclerosis 610 $acomputed tomography angiography 615 7$aMedicine 700 $aKatsanos$b Aristeidis H$4edt$01302200 702 $aKatsanos$b Aristeidis H$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557284903321 996 $aDiagnosis, Prevention and Treatment for Stroke$93026241 997 $aUNINA
