While in smaller basins the focus of water resources management may be on project implementation, irrigation and drainage management, water use efficiency and flood operations; in larger basins, because of the greater complexity and competing interests, there is often a greater need for long-term strategic river basin planning across sectors and jurisdictions, and considering social, environmental, and economic outcomes. This puts a focus on sustainable development, including consumptive water use and non-consumptive water uses, such as inland navigation and hydropower. It also requires the consideration of hard or technical issues?data, modeling, infrastructure?as well as soft issues of governance, including legal frameworks, policies, institutions, and political economy. Rapidly evolving technologies could play a significant role in managing large basins. This Special Issue of Water traverses these hard and soft aspects of managing water resources in large river basins through a series of diverse case studies from across the globe that demonstrate recent advances in both technical and governance innovations in river basin management. 606 $aResearch & information: general$2bicssc 610 $amulti-objective competition mechanism 610 $acascade reservoirs operation 610 $acopula function 610 $aPareto set 610 $ahydropower 610 $adam 610 $adamage 610 $aecosystem 610 $aconservation measures 610 $aenvironmental assessment 610 $aenvironmental flows 610 $aGIS 610 $aintegrated water resources management 610 $ariver basin planning 610 $aGanga River 610 $aIndia 610 $aparticipatory modelling 610 $aconjunctive water use 610 $ahydrologic modelling 610 $aco-production 610 $adevelopment assistance 610 $ahydrological modelling 610 $airrigation 610 $aIWRM 610 $arational choice 610 $astakeholder participation 610 $ascenario analysis 610 $awater governance 610 $atransboundary waters 610 $acooperation 610 $aintegrated water resource management 610 $aBrahmaputra River Basin 610 $aSouth Asia 610 $aSMAP 610 $apassive microwave soil moisture 610 $asoil moisture downscaling 610 $adigital platforms 610 $astakeholder engagement 610 $aequitable water sharing 610 $aUN watercourse convention 610 $ainternational and transboundary rivers 610 $aNile River basin 610 $adisruptive technology 610 $ariver basins 610 $alarge basins 610 $awater security 610 $awater resources management 610 $awater data 610 $ainformation technology 610 $aanalytics 615 7$aResearch & information: general 700 $aYoung$b William$4edt$0822576 702 $aHarshadeep$b Nagaraja Rao$4edt 702 $aYoung$b William$4oth 702 $aHarshadeep$b Nagaraja Rao$4oth 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910557204803321 996 $aManaging Water Resources in Large River Basins$93016377 997 $aUNINA
