The rules of the public discourse game have changed, and The Public Insult Playbook argues that the political left needs to account for the power of vitriol in crafting their theories for social and political change. With this book, noted constitutional law expert and disability rights advocate Ruth Colker offers insights into how public insults have come to infect contemporary public discourse?a technique not invented by but certainly refined by Donald Trump?and, importantly, highlights lessons learned and tools for fighting back. Public insults act as a headwind and dead weight to structural reform. By showcasing the power of insults across a number of civil rights battlegrounds, The Public Insult Playbook uncovers the structural nature of personal attacks, and offers a blueprint for a legal and political strategy that anticipates the profound but poorly understood damage they can inflict to whole movements. Illustrating how completely the tactic has been adopted and embraced by the American right wing, the book catalogues how public insults have been used against people with disabilities, immigrants, pregnant women, women seeking abortions, women who are sexually harassed, members of the LGBTQ community, and, of course, Black Americans. These examples demonstrate both the pervasiveness of the deployment of insults by the political right and the ways in which the left has been caught flat-footed by this tactic. She then uses the Black Lives Matter movement as a case study to consider how to effectively counter these insults and maintain an emphasis on structural reform. 606 $aInvective$xPolitical aspects$zUnited States 606 $aCivil rights$zUnited States 615 0$aInvective$xPolitical aspects 615 0$aCivil rights 676 $a179 700 $aColker$b Ruth$0725563 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910554211903321 996 $aThe public insult playbook$92817914 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03165nam 22004455 450 001 9911007491803321 005 20250523130338.0 010 $a3-658-47942-6 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-658-47942-8 035 $a(CKB)39125296800041 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-658-47942-8 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC32129714 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL32129714 035 $a(EXLCZ)9939125296800041 100 $a20250523d2025 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aEnd of Life: The Case of Aging Large-Scale Retail Properties /$fby Fritz Pelzl 205 $a1st ed. 2025. 210 1$aWiesbaden :$cSpringer Fachmedien Wiesbaden :$cImprint: Springer Gabler,$d2025. 215 $a1 online resource (XXIII, 212 p. 71 illus., 69 illus. in color.) 311 08$a3-658-47941-8 327 $aIntroduction -- Framework of Large-scale Retail Properties -- Aging Process of Large-scale Retail Properties -- Transfer of Obsolescence on Large-scale Retail Properties -- Demolition of Large-scale Retail Properties -- Lifetime of Demolished Large-scale Retail Properties -- Lifetime of Demolished Worst-performing Large-scale Retail Properties -- Conclusion. 330 $aRetail is an increasingly dynamic environment, shaped by digitalization, empowered customers and broad socio-economic changes. These factors are impacting retailers' business models and, in particular, their offline stores, which are subject to physical deterioration and obsolescence. Over time, the declining utility of built substance conflicts with increasing user expectations, ultimately leading to demolition. This includes significant urban, economic and environmental consequences. By analyzing an extended dataset based on the German demolition statistic, this study empirically examines the lifetime of demolished large-scale retail buildings. It identifies the characteristics of underperforming buildings as well as the triggers that ultimately lead to their demise. As demolition generates significant negative externalities, it is assessed whether end of life occurs prematurely. This is measured by technical and economic benchmarks, as well as against alternative assets. The study is conducted with the aim of future-proofing large retail properties, which is essential for sustainable future urban development. About the author Dr.-Ing. Fritz Pelzl researches the future challenges of sustainable real estate and urban development with a focus on retail and residential buildings. He is also a project developer and the founder and managing director of several property companies. 606 $aReal estate management 606 $aReal Estate Management 615 0$aReal estate management. 615 14$aReal Estate Management. 676 $a333.5068 700 $aPelzl$b Fritz$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01822564 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9911007491803321 996 $aEnd of Life: The Case of Aging Large-Scale Retail Properties$94388832 997 $aUNINA
