This study distinguishes itself from other works on liberal and civic education by focusing explicitly on the civic and liberal education of those citizens who are not destined for prominent positions within politics and government but are still a part of and relevant to political society. It considers this strand of liberal and civic education, in both its ancient and modern iterations, by focusing on the philosophies of Plato, Cicero, Locke, Rousseau, and Adam Smith. Geoffrey Kellow is an Associate Professor in The College of the Humanities and the Department of Political Science at Carleton University, Canada. He specializes in the history of ideas. Professor Kellow researches the history of liberal education with a particular interest in the civic and economic components thereof. He is the editor of On Civic Republicanism (with Neven Leddy) and the author of essays and reviews published in both scholarly journals and the popular media. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Carleton University. . 410 0$aPalgrave Studies in Classical Liberalism,$x2662-6489 606 $aEconomics$xHistory 606 $aPolitical science$xPhilosophy 606 $aEducation 606 $aEconomics 606 $aHistory of Economic Thought and Methodology 606 $aPolitical Philosophy 606 $aEducation 606 $aPolitical Economy and Economic Systems 615 0$aEconomics$xHistory. 615 0$aPolitical science$xPhilosophy. 615 0$aEducation. 615 0$aEconomics. 615 14$aHistory of Economic Thought and Methodology. 615 24$aPolitical Philosophy. 615 24$aEducation. 615 24$aPolitical Economy and Economic Systems. 676 $a321.8071 676 $a320.4071 700 $aKellow$b Geoffrey C.$f1970-$01263932 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 912 $a9910553067603321 996 $aThe wisdom of the commons$92963199 997 $aUNINA
