Furthermore, roughly half of Poland's entire urban population was Jewish. Thus, the study of Jews in private Polish towns is central to both Jewish history and to the history of Poland-Lithuania. This study seeks to investigate the social, economic, and political history of Jews in Opatow, a private Polish town, in the context of an increasing power and influence of private towns at the expense of the Polish crown and gentry in the eighteenth century. Hundert recovers an important community from historical obscurity by providing a balanced perspective on the Jewish experience in the Polish Commonwealth and by describing the special dimensions of Jewish life in a private town. 410 0$aJohns Hopkins Jewish studies. 606 $aJews$xSocial conditions$xHistory 606 $aGeschichte (1700-1800)$2swd 606 $aJuden$2gnd$3(DE-588)4028808-0 606 $aJoden$2gtt 606 $aJews$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00983135 606 $aEthnic relations$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00916005 606 $aJews$zPoland$zOpatow (Wojewodztwo Swietokrzyskie)$xHistory$y18th century 607 $aPoland 607 $aJuden$2swd 607 $aOpatow$2gnd 607 $aPoland$zOpatow (Wojewodztwo Swietokrzyskie)$2fast 607 $aPoland, Kielce, Opatow (Opatow)$xJewish history$2fssh 607 $aOpatow (Wojewodztwo Swietokrzyskie, Poland)$xEthnic relations 608 $aHistory. 610 $aSocial & cultural history 615 0$aJews$xSocial conditions$xHistory. 615 00$aGeschichte (1700-1800) 615 0$aJuden 615 10$aJoden. 615 0$aJews. 615 0$aEthnic relations. 615 0$aJews$xHistory 700 $aHundert$b Gershon David$f1946-2023.$01435357 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910524854803321 996 $aThe Jews in a Polish Private Town$93592770 997 $aUNINA
