There are, however, several methods - some old, some new - that have extended its basic concepts to uncountable structures. Unlike in the classical case, however, no single dominant approach has emerged, and different methods reveal different aspects of the computable content of uncountable mathematics. This book contains introductions to eight major approaches to computable uncountable mathematics: descriptive set theory; infinite time Turing machines; Blum-Shub-Smale computability; Sigma-definability; computability theory on admissible ordinals; E-recursion theory; local computability; and uncountable reverse mathematics. This book provides an authoritative and multifaceted introduction to this exciting new area of research that is still in its early stages. It is ideal as both an introductory text for graduate and advanced undergraduate students and a source of interesting new approaches for researchers in computability theory and related areas. 410 0$aLecture notes in logic ;$v41. 606 $aModel theory 606 $aComputable functions 615 0$aModel theory. 615 0$aComputable functions. 676 $a511.3/4 702 $aGreenberg$b Noam$f1974- 702 $aHamkins$b Joel David 702 $aHirschfeldt$b Denis Roman 702 $aMiller$b Russell$c(Professor of mathematics), 712 02$aAssociation for Symbolic Logic, 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910824613803321 996 $aEffective mathematics of the uncountable$94127970 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03866oam 22007934a 450 001 9910524849403321 005 20230621140216.0 010 $a0-253-05580-6 035 $a(CKB)5600000000001637 035 $a(OCoLC)1259586349 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse92639 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/88395 035 $a(oapen)doab88395 035 $a(EXLCZ)995600000000001637 100 $a20100503d1990 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|||||||nn|n 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 14$aThe Potential of Modern Discourse$eMusil, Peirce, and Perturbation /$fMarike Finlay 210 $cIndiana University Press$d1990 210 1$aBloomington :$cIndiana University Press,$d1990. 210 4$dİ1990. 215 $a1 online resource (1 online resource xii, 186 pages.) 225 0 $aAdvances in semiotics 330 $aThe postmodern response to the century-old crisis of classical discourse (which called into question the possibility of a fixed, objective, and absolute knowledge) has been to declare the death of the subject, and the end or absence of meaning. The Potential of Modern Discourse seeks to recover for contemporary discourse an alternative possibility by returning to the modernist project of linking ethics, politics, and the discourse of knowledge. In the multiple, ironic discourses of Robert Musil, the semiotics of Charles Sanders Peirce, and the physics of Werner Heisenberg, Marike Finlay finds the basis for a new discourse of knowledge. In her pragmatic, consensualmodel, meaning and truth are not objectively or unilaterally established, but rather "triadically" co-constructed as realtionship among "object," "representamen" (or "sign"), and "interpretant" (the terms are Peirce's), and this triadic realtionship is constantly shifting through time and space. By approaching Musil's The Man without Qualities as discourse, Finlay finds in it a re-presentation of the theory of knowledge implicit in the Peircean triadicity and Heisenber's philosophy of physics. Her reading constitutes one of the first attempts to apply Peircean semiotics to a literary work. in Musil's modernist response to the crisis of representation, Finlway discovers an alternative to the postmodernist complete deconstruction of sense. 606 $aSemiotik$2swd 606 $aKonversationsanalyse$2swd 606 $aConnaissance, Theorie de la$2ram 606 $aAnalyse du discours$2ram 606 $aSemiotique$2ram 606 $aSemiotiek$2gtt 606 $aDiscourse analysis$2gtt 606 $aKennistheorie$2gtt 606 $aSemiotics$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01112351 606 $aKnowledge, Theory of$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00988194 606 $aDiscourse analysis$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00894932 606 $aSemiotique 606 $aConnaissance, Theorie de la 606 $aAnalyse du discours 606 $aSemiotics 606 $aKnowledge, Theory of 606 $aDiscourse analysis 608 $aElectronic books. 615 00$aSemiotik. 615 00$aKonversationsanalyse. 615 0$aConnaissance, Theorie de la. 615 0$aAnalyse du discours. 615 0$aSemiotique. 615 10$aSemiotiek. 615 10$aDiscourse analysis. 615 10$aKennistheorie. 615 0$aSemiotics. 615 0$aKnowledge, Theory of. 615 0$aDiscourse analysis. 615 0$aSemiotique. 615 0$aConnaissance, Theorie de la. 615 0$aAnalyse du discours. 615 0$aSemiotics. 615 0$aKnowledge, Theory of. 615 0$aDiscourse analysis. 700 $aFinlay$b Marike$0701200 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910524849403321 996 $aThe Potential of Modern Discourse$92676783 997 $aUNINA
