The contributors analyse choruses as fictional, religious and civic performers; as combinations of text, song and dance; and as objects of reflection in themselves, in relation and contrast to the choruses of comedy and melic poetry. Drawing on earlier analyses of the social context of Greek drama, the non-textual dimensions of tragedy, and the relations between dramatic and melic choruses, the chapters explore the uses of various analytic tools in allowing us better to capture the specificity of the tragic chorus. Special attention is given to the physicality of choral dancing, musical interactions between choruses and actors, the trajectories of reception, and the treatment of time and space in the odes. 606 $aDrama$xChorus (Greek drama) 606 $aGreek drama (Tragedy)$xHistory and criticism 615 0$aDrama$xChorus (Greek drama) 615 0$aGreek drama (Tragedy)$xHistory and criticism. 676 $a882/.0109 702 $aGagne?$b Renaud$f1976- 702 $aHopman$b Marianne Govers$f1974- 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910826004503321 996 $aChoral mediations in Greek tragedy$94048145 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02806oam 22006014a 450 001 9910524843803321 005 20250527234007.0 010 $a0-253-05128-2 035 $a(CKB)5600000000001629 035 $a(OCoLC)1259584636 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse92649 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/88314 035 $a(oapen)doab88314 035 $a(EXLCZ)995600000000001629 100 $a20100712d1980 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|||||||nn|n 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 14$aThe Structure of Intonational Meaning$eEvidence from English /$fD. Robert Ladd, Jr., investigates the theoretical and methodological assumptions of past studies in the field. His impressive synthesis develops a new, comprehensive foundation for the study of English intonation in general. Ladd discusses a number of long-standing issues, including the relation of stress to intonation (and the associated questions of the phonological nature of sentence accent and the phonetic nature of stress), the various approaches to the placement of sentence accent, the phonological analysis of intonation contours into 'levels' or 'configurations', and the 'lexical' and 'syntactic' approaches to the meaning of intonation." 606 $aSemantik$2gnd 606 $aIntonation$gLinguistik$2gnd 606 $aEnglish language$xSemantics$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00911631 606 $aEnglish language$xIntonation$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00911322 606 $aAnglais (Langue)$xSemantique 606 $aAnglais (Langue)$xIntonation 606 $aEnglish language$xSemantics 606 $aEnglish language$xIntonation 606 $aLinguistics 606 $aEnglisch$2swd 615 7$aSemantik. 615 7$aIntonation 615 0$aEnglish language$xSemantics. 615 0$aEnglish language$xIntonation. 615 6$aAnglais (Langue)$xSemantique. 615 6$aAnglais (Langue)$xIntonation. 615 0$aEnglish language$xSemantics. 615 0$aEnglish language$xIntonation. 615 0$aLinguistics. 615 7$aEnglisch. 700 $aLadd$b D.
