It argues that the establishment of Anglophone literature in Asia did not simply ?happen?: there were extra-literary and -academic forces at work, inserting and domesticating in Asian universities both the English language and Anglo-American literature, and their attendant cultural and political values. Offering new perspectives for ongoing conversations surrounding the globalization of Anglophone literature in literary and cultural studies, the book also considers the practicalities of teaching both the language and its canon of classic texts, and that the historical formation and shape of English studies in Asia offers lessons that relate not only to the discipline but also may be applied to the humanities as a whole. 410 0$aAsia-Pacific and Literature in English,$x2524-7646 606 $aLiterature 606 $aAsia$xHistory 606 $aLiterature$xHistory and criticism 606 $aLanguage and languages$xStudy and teaching 606 $aLanguage and languages 606 $aLiterature 606 $aAsian History 606 $aLiterary History 606 $aLanguage Education 606 $aLanguage History 615 0$aLiterature. 615 0$aAsia$xHistory. 615 0$aLiterature$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aLanguage and languages$xStudy and teaching. 615 0$aLanguage and languages. 615 14$aLiterature. 615 24$aAsian History. 615 24$aLiterary History. 615 24$aLanguage Education. 615 24$aLanguage History. 676 $a427.95 702 $aChilton$b Myles 702 $aClark$b Steve 702 $aYoshihara$b Yukari 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910523008103321 996 $aAsian English$92597539 997 $aUNINA
