At that time, Britain was searching for a new national identity, and the young maritime hero and his exploits conjured images of vigour, energy, enthusiasm and courage. Adopted as centrepiece in a campaign of concerted war propaganda leading up to the Battle of Trafalgar, the young hero came to represent much that was quintessentially British at this major turning point in the nation's history. By drawing on a wide range of sources, this study shows how the young hero gave maritime youth a symbolic power which it had never before had in Britain. It offers a valuable contribution to the field of British military and naval history, as well as the study of British identity, youth, heroism and propaganda."--Bloomsbury Publishing. 410 0$aBloomsbury studies in military history. 517 3 $aBritain and the young maritime hero, 1745-1820 606 $aHeroes$zGreat Britain$vBiography 606 $aNaval biography$zGreat Britain 606 $aPropaganda, British$xHistory$y18th century 606 $aPropaganda, British$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aSailors in literature 606 $aSailors$zGreat Britain$vBiography 606 $aSailors$zGreat Britain$xHistory$y18th century 606 $aSailors$zGreat Britain$xHistory$y19th century 606 $2British & Irish history 615 0$aHeroes 615 0$aNaval biography 615 0$aPropaganda, British$xHistory 615 0$aPropaganda, British$xHistory 615 0$aSailors in literature. 615 0$aSailors 615 0$aSailors$xHistory 615 0$aSailors$xHistory 676 $a359.0092/241 700 $aRonald$b Douglas$01067169 801 0$bUtOrBLW 801 1$bUtOrBLW 801 2$bUkLoBP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910511636103321 996 $aYouth, heroism and war propaganda$92550623 997 $aUNINA
