Par sa rigueur et son ampleur de vue, l?ouvrage espère nourrir la réflexion sur la Béotie, mais aussi plus largement sur le fédéralisme antique, expérience politique originale qui demeure une source d?inspiration importante en Europe. Il s?intègre également dans la série des études régionales qui sont une voie majeure de progrès dans la connaissance de l?histoire grecque. Yannis Kalliontzis, ancien membre de l?École française d?Athènes, est historien et épigraphiste. Formé en Grèce, en Suisse et en France, il a étudié l?épigraphie et l?histoire de plusieurs régions de la Grèce.
