Emerging themes and debates /$fPatrice Cohen, Suniti Solomon 210 $aPondichéry $cInstitut Français de Pondichéry$d2021 215 $a1 online resource (275 p.) 225 1 $aCollection Sciences Sociales 311 $a81-8470-122-5 330 $aAt a time when the number of people, and in particular women, living with HIV/AIDS in India is increasing, the aim of this publication is to contribute to the understanding of mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) and of its prevention. Indian and French specialists (medical practitioners, social scientists, activists) have been brought together to elucidate different aspects of this transmission and its possible prevention. Due to the numerous factors involved in the risks of transmission, and the social and cultural complexity of maternity in India, all these contributions show the necessity of initiating and conducting research in the fields of the social sciences. Considerations as to the need of research are formulated which can be of interest to the whole domain of social sciences. These proposals - mainly perceived in the areas of social anthropology or psychology - are exploring the links between the social and cultural settings and the risks of transmission from the mother to the child in taking into account all the parameters of the ongoing prevention made by the public and private sectors. The three routes of transmission - pregnancy, delivery and breastfeeding - are analysed here as practices embedded to maternity and on the perception of risks of transmission, and on possibilities of prevention. And this exploration shows that in fact these topics reveal a large part of the functioning of contemporary dynamics of the Indian society. This proposal could therefore be enlarged and adapted to such different disciplines as economy, demography, law, geography, history or sociology in combination with public health and epidemiology. These perspectives are an invitation to develop further research in each discipline, but also to develop multidisciplinarity, interdisciplinarity, or transdisciplinarity. In the context of the spread of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in India, MTCT is seen to be increasingly crucial. Because this subject has only recently begun to emerge? 606 $aSocial Sciences, Interdisciplinary 606 $aHealth Policy & Services 606 $aIndia 606 $amedecine 606 $aaids 606 $ahealth 606 $abirth 606 $amaternity 606 $aInde 606 $amédecine 606 $asida 606 $asanté 606 $anaissance 606 $amaternité 610 $aIndia 610 $amedecine 610 $aaids 610 $ahealth 610 $abirth 610 $amaternity 615 4$aSocial Sciences, Interdisciplinary 615 4$aHealth Policy & Services 615 4$aIndia 615 4$amedecine 615 4$aaids 615 4$ahealth 615 4$abirth 615 4$amaternity 615 4$aInde 615 4$amédecine 615 4$asida 615 4$asanté 615 4$anaissance 615 4$amaternité 700 $aBarré-Sinoussi$b Françoise$01287115 701 $aBourdier$b Frédéric$01241946 701 $aCohen$b Patrice$01287116 701 $aDesclaux$b Alice$0893966 701 $aGeetha$b K$01265878 701 $aGupta$b R.N$01287117 701 $aHancart-Petitet$b Pascale$01287118 701 $aKuganantham$b P$01287119 701 $aLingam$b Lakshmi$01287120 701 $aMankad$b Siddhi$01287121 701 $aNatarajan$b Shyamala$01287122 701 $aPittolo-Rageade$b Florence$01287123 701 $aShanti$b K$01287124 701 $aShyamprasad$b Sheila$01287125 701 $aSolomon$b Suniti$01287126 701 $aCohen$b Patrice$01287116 701 $aSolomon$b Suniti$01287126 801 0$bFR-FrMaCLE 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910495987103321 996 $aAids and maternity in India$93020029 997 $aUNINA
