The authors employ a broad focus and look at metropolitan cities between Helsinki and Athens, Warsaw and Moscow. The period under investigation begins with the 1890s when East European societies entered an 'age of great acceleration' and stops with the outbreak of World War II which not only destroyed but also socially and ethnically altered many metropolitan cities of Eastern Europe. While before the First World War most of Eastern Europe was subsumed in the Habsburg, Romanov, and Ottoman empires, new (nation-) states and socialist ideologies shaped post-1918 urban development. For the majority of the new capitals created by the post-war order the state remained the main proponent of change. Both, historical preconditions--the economic situation, the legacy of the empires--and the experience of the upheaval of 1917/18 contributed to this particularity of the region. On the other hand Western Europe and her urban experts continued to be and became even stronger points of reference. The volume discusses the peculiar relationship between state, city and the challenges of modernity in the Eastern Europe with a focus on urban planning in the wider sense of the word. In particular, the different chapters of the book ask how far--given the omnipresent, albeit often idealized example of Western metropolitan cities--a 'reflective modernization' may be identified as a common marker of cities in the region under observation"--Provided by publisher. 606 $aCities and towns$zEurope, Eastern$xGrowth$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aCities and towns$zEurope, Eastern$xGrowth$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aSocial change$zEurope, Eastern$xHistory 606 $aCity planning$zEurope, Eastern$xHistory 606 $aCity and town life$zEurope, Eastern$xHistory 606 $aCapitals (Cities)$zEurope, Eastern$xHistory 607 $aEurope, Eastern$xSocial conditions$y19th century 607 $aEurope, Eastern$xSocial conditions$y20th century 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aCities and towns$xGrowth$xHistory 615 0$aCities and towns$xGrowth$xHistory 615 0$aSocial change$xHistory. 615 0$aCity planning$xHistory. 615 0$aCity and town life$xHistory. 615 0$aCapitals (Cities)$xHistory. 676 $a307.760947 702 $aBehrends$b Jan C. 702 $aKohlrausch$b Martin 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910493240703321 996 $aRaces to modernity$92467676 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00703nam0-22002651i-450 001 990006064450403321 005 20230330131201.0 100 $a20000112d1985----km-y0itay50------ba 101 0 $aita 102 $aIT 105 $ay-------001yy 200 1 $aMicroeconomia in discussione$fGiuseppe Tattara 210 $aMilano$cEtas libri$d1985 215 $a177 p.$d21 cm 225 1 $aEconomia 676 $a338.5 700 1$aTattara,$bGiuseppe$0118275 801 0$aIT$bUNINA$gRICA$2UNIMARC 901 $aBK 912 $a990006064450403321 952 $aXV H1 41$b7893*$fFGBC 952 $aXV C 199 (1)$b7893*$fFGBC 959 $aFGBC 996 $aMicroeconomia in discussione$9578173 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02464oam 2200637 450 001 9910713499503321 005 20220405142032.0 035 $a(CKB)5470000002500654 035 $a(OCoLC)1150786248 035 $a(OCoLC)1240504043 035 $a(EXLCZ)995470000002500654 100 $a20200414d2020 ua 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurbn||||a|||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aContinuation of the national emergency with respect to Venezuela $emessage from the President of the United States, transmitting notification that the national emergency with respect to the situation in Venezuela that was declared in Executive Order 13692 of March 8, 2015, is to continue in effect beyond March 8, 2020, pursuant to 50 U.S.C. 1622(d); Public law 94-412, Sec. 202(d); (90 Stat. 1257) 210 1$aWashington :$cU.S. Government Publishing Office,$d2020. 215 $a1 online resource (4 pages) 225 1 $aHouse document / 116th Congress, 2d session ;$v116-105 300 $a"March 5, 2020." 300 $a"Referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs." 517 $aContinuation of the national emergency with respect to Venezuela 606 $aPolitical persecution$zVenezuela$xPrevention 606 $aHuman rights$zVenezuela 606 $aEconomic sanctions, American$zVenezuela 606 $aDiplomatic relations$2fast 606 $aEconomic sanctions, American$2fast 606 $aHuman rights$2fast 607 $aUnited States$xForeign relations$zVenezuela 607 $aVenezuela$xForeign relations$zUnited States 607 $aUnited States$2fast 607 $aVenezuela$2fast 608 $aLegislative materials.$2fast 608 $aLegislative materials.$2lcgft 615 0$aPolitical persecution$xPrevention. 615 0$aHuman rights 615 0$aEconomic sanctions, American 615 7$aDiplomatic relations. 615 7$aEconomic sanctions, American. 615 7$aHuman rights. 702 $aTrump$b Donald$f1946- 712 02$aUnited States.$bCongress.$bHouse.$bCommittee on Foreign Affairs, 801 0$bGPO 801 1$bGPO 801 2$bGPO 801 2$bOCLCF 801 2$bOCLCA 801 2$bOCLCQ 801 2$bOCLCO 801 2$bGPO 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910713499503321 996 $aContinuation of the national emergency with respect to Venezuela$93446987 997 $aUNINA
