Both handbooks, dating to the Roman period, contain an assortment of recipes for magical rites in the Demotic and Greek language. The library which comprises these two handbooks is nowadays better known as the Theban Magical Library. The book traces the social and cultural milieu of the composers, compilers and users of the extant spells through a combination of philology, sociolinguistics and cultural analysis. To anybody working on Greco-Roman Egypt, ancient magic, and bilingualism this study is of significant importance. 410 0$aReligions in the Graeco-Roman world ;$vv. 153. 606 $aMagic$zEgypt 606 $aRites and ceremonies$zEgypt 606 $aBilingualism$zEgypt$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aEgyptian language$vPapyri, Demotic 606 $aManuscripts, Greek (Papyri)$zEgypt 607 $aEgypt$xCivilization$y332 B.C.-638 A.D 615 0$aMagic 615 0$aRites and ceremonies 615 0$aBilingualism$xHistory 615 0$aEgyptian language 615 0$aManuscripts, Greek (Papyri) 676 $a133.4/3/0932 700 $aDieleman$b Jacco$01093669 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910784184303321 996 $aPriests, tongues, and rites$92719966 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04753nam 22008055 450 001 9910484991503321 005 20251226195648.0 010 $a3-540-78791-7 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-540-78791-4 035 $a(CKB)1000000000490393 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000316728 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11240507 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000316728 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10286366 035 $a(PQKB)11734329 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-540-78791-4 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3068757 035 $a(PPN)12521863X 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3068757 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10533952 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL185656 035 $a(OCoLC)233974028 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000490393 100 $a20100301d2008 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnn|008mamaa 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aCompiler Construction $e17th International Conference, CC 2008, Held as Part of the Joint European Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software, ETAPS 2008, Budapest, Hungary, March 29 - April 6, 2008.
