In her 1980 article "Maternal Thinking" Sara Ruddick theorized, "although some men do, and more men should acquire maternal thinking, their ways of acquisition are necessarily different from ours (women's)". Feminist scholars during the 1990s and early 2000s, such as Audre? Lorde (1993), Robin Morgan (1996), Babette Smith (1995), Robyn Rowland and Alison M. Thomas (1996), and those appearing in Andrea O'Reilly's 2001 edited collection Mothers and Sons address the role and struggle of mothers raising sons. And while Andrea Doucet directly explores the question of whether men mother in her book Do Men Mother (2006) and Gary Pelletier reflects on the role of internalized patriarchy and the lens of feminist maternal theory in understanding his relationship with his own mother (2012), we still have much to discover, learn and theorize about men, mothers and mothering. The purpose of this collection is to explore the meanings and effects of the relationships among men, mothers and mothering from the perspective of sons, men, mothers, and parents across an array of identities, interests, perspectives, and geographical areas. The fruitful intersections of men and care work, masculinities and feminisms, and fatherhood and maternal theory inform our investigation. In her article "Taking Off the Maternal Lens" (2010), Doucet expands upon her earlier theorizing and has "come to believe that studying fathers' caregiving through the lens of men and mothering ultimately limits our understandings of fathers' caring." Although, as Doucet suggests, "fathers are reconfiguring fathering and masculinities and what it means to be a man in the twenty-first century," the stance of this collection affirms there is still substantial insight to be gained from the use of a maternal lens with respect to fathering and masculinities, and to sons, men, mothers, and mothering more generally"--$cProvided by publisher. 606 $aParents$xAttitudes 606 $aParenting$xSocial aspects 606 $aQueer theory 606 $aGender identity 606 $aMotherhood 606 $aMen 606 $aMothers and sons 615 0$aParents$xAttitudes. 615 0$aParenting$xSocial aspects. 615 0$aQueer theory. 615 0$aGender identity. 615 0$aMotherhood. 615 0$aMen. 615 0$aMothers and sons. 676 $a306.874/3 702 $aGreen$b Fiona J. 702 $aPelletier$b Gary Lee$f1987- 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910796303603321 996 $aEssential breakthroughs$93841716 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04088nam 22006975 450 001 9910484812303321 005 20200920081902.0 010 $a3-658-08145-7 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-658-08145-4 035 $a(CKB)3710000000291613 035 $a(EBL)1967551 035 $a(OCoLC)908087390 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001386834 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11824983 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001386834 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11394352 035 $a(PQKB)11488231 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-658-08145-4 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1967551 035 $a(PPN)183091949 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000291613 100 $a20141124d2015 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aUniversity Governance in (Post-)Conflict Southern Sudan 2005?2011 $eThe Nexus of Islamism, New Public Management and Neopatrimonialism /$fby Akiiki Babyesiza 205 $a1st ed. 2015. 210 1$aWiesbaden :$cSpringer Fachmedien Wiesbaden :$cImprint: Springer VS,$d2015. 215 $a1 online resource (212 p.) 225 1 $aOrganization & Public Management,$x2626-1545 300 $a"Research"--Cover. 311 $a3-658-08144-9 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references. 327 $aThe History of Education, Identity, and Conflict in Sudan -- Universities in Southern Sudan -- Actors in Higher Education -- University Governance in Sudan. 330 $aFew studies have looked into the governance of universities in societies affected by armed conflicts, because they are either meant for practitioners or focused on the role of universities for peace and development. Akiiki Babyesiza offers an in-depth analysis of the relationship between state, higher education, and society in a multicultural and multi-religious post-conflict setting and uses empirical data to question university governance concepts. She explores the role that civil wars played in university development and governance in Sudan with a particular focus on Southern Sudan after the peace agreement of 2005 and before its secession in 2011.
