This edited collection interrogates not only war and its effects on children and young people, but how understandings of this conflict have shaped or been shaped by historical memories of the Great War, which have only allowed for several tropes of childhood during the conflict to emerge. It brings together new research by emerging and established scholars who, through a series of tightly focussed case studies, introduce a range of new histories to both explore the experience of being young during the First World War, and interrogate the memories and representations of the conflict produced for children. Taken together the chapters in this volume shed light on the multiple ways in which the Great War shaped, disrupted and interrupted childhood in Britain, and illuminatesimultaneously the selectivity of the portrayal of the conflict within the more typical national narratives. . 606 $aGreat Britain$xHistory 606 $aMilitary history 606 $aCivilization$xHistory 606 $aSocial history 606 $aSociology 606 $aSocial groups 606 $aHistory of Britain and Ireland 606 $aMilitary History 606 $aCultural History 606 $aSocial History 606 $aSociology of Family, Youth and Aging 615 0$aGreat Britain$xHistory. 615 0$aMilitary history. 615 0$aCivilization$xHistory. 615 0$aSocial history. 615 0$aSociology. 615 0$aSocial groups. 615 14$aHistory of Britain and Ireland. 615 24$aMilitary History. 615 24$aCultural History. 615 24$aSocial History. 615 24$aSociology of Family, Youth and Aging. 676 $a940.3161 676 $a900 702 $aAndrews$b Maggie 702 $aFleming$b N.
