Territorial Policies and the Local Development of Europe?s Periphery: Descriptive and Prescriptive Implications. 330 $aThis book focuses on territorial policies as instruments for local development in Europe?s periphery. Using a multiple-case research design in three typical case studies in the context of the Mediterranean island of Sardinia (Italy), we empirically test the hypothesis that the institutionalisation of the governance system is an independent variable that is capable of influencing the quality of public policy, intended as a dependent variable. According to this hypothesis, the two above-mentioned variables tend to change according to a linear and direct correlation: upward variation of the degree of institutionalisation of the governance system tends to correspond to upward variation in the quality of the policy, and vice versa. In our conclusions, we discuss the descriptive and prescriptive implications of the empirical findings of the research for the local development of peripheral areas. Regarding the descriptive implications, we explain how territorial policy-making can be articulated, based on the degree of institutionalisation of the governance system and the quality of the territorial policies. Regarding the prescriptive implications, we identify the best practices for territorial governance in order to improve the chances of local development in Europe?s periphery. 410 0$aUrban and Landscape Perspectives,$x2512-1200 ;$v22 606 $aSociology, Urban 606 $aComparative government 606 $aTransportation engineering 606 $aTraffic engineering 606 $aEnvironmental policy 606 $aEurope$xPolitics and government 606 $aUrban Sociology 606 $aComparative Politics 606 $aTransportation Technology and Traffic Engineering 606 $aEnvironmental Policy 606 $aEuropean Politics 615 0$aSociology, Urban. 615 0$aComparative government. 615 0$aTransportation engineering. 615 0$aTraffic engineering. 615 0$aEnvironmental policy. 615 0$aEurope$xPolitics and government. 615 14$aUrban Sociology. 615 24$aComparative Politics. 615 24$aTransportation Technology and Traffic Engineering. 615 24$aEnvironmental Policy. 615 24$aEuropean Politics. 676 $a307.3416094 700 $aTebaldi$b Mauro$0126276 702 $aCalaresu$b Marco 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910484581003321 996 $aThe quality of territorial policies in Europe's periphery$92569610 997 $aUNINA
