The volume includes the more recent achievements in the domain of theor- ical, experimental and applied fuzzy logic and related techniques. To emphasize the particular connotation of the modern applications of fuzzy logic, special - tention has been devoted to the recent trend of integrating and complementing fuzzy logic with rough set theory, neural networks, genetic algorithms and other formal theories and methodologies in order to de'ne ?exible and "intelligent" systems, based on the so-called paradigm of soft computing. The capabiblity of these techniques to incorporate imprecision and incomplete information, and to model complex systems, makes them useful tools in many scienti'c areas. Among these areas, WILF 2003 dedicated a Special Session on "Soft Comp- ing in Image Processing." Image processing has been a major topic in many areas of research and development, particularly in computer vision and pattern rec- nition. The majority of the methods were based on probabilistic paradigms, such as the well-known Bayesian paradigm and evidence-based decision-making s- tems, and just recently soft-computing techniques have gained a relevant role in the leading techniques to tackle image-processing problems. The special session was organized in cooperation with the SCIP group (http://fuzzy.rug.ac.be/SCIP). 410 0$aLecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence,$x2945-9141 ;$v2955 606 $aArtificial intelligence 606 $aMachine theory 606 $aComputer science 606 $aInformation storage and retrieval systems 606 $aDatabase management 606 $aComputer vision 606 $aArtificial Intelligence 606 $aFormal Languages and Automata Theory 606 $aTheory of Computation 606 $aInformation Storage and Retrieval 606 $aDatabase Management 606 $aComputer Vision 615 0$aArtificial intelligence. 615 0$aMachine theory. 615 0$aComputer science. 615 0$aInformation storage and retrieval systems. 615 0$aDatabase management. 615 0$aComputer vision. 615 14$aArtificial Intelligence. 615 24$aFormal Languages and Automata Theory. 615 24$aTheory of Computation. 615 24$aInformation Storage and Retrieval. 615 24$aDatabase Management. 615 24$aComputer Vision. 676 $a511.313 701 $aDi Gesu?$b V$01173927 701 $aMasulli$b F$g(Francesco)$0275248 701 $aPetrosino$b Alfredo$0275249 712 12$aInternational Workshop on Fuzzy Logic and Applications. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910484509303321 996 $aFuzzy logic and applications$94188470 997 $aUNINA
