Quasi *-algebras are partial algebraic structures that are motivated by certain applications in Mathematical Physics. They arise in a natural way by completing a *-algebra under a locally convex *-algebra topology, with respect to which the multiplication is separately continuous. Among other things, the book presents an unbounded representation theory of quasi *-algebras, together with an analysis of normed quasi *-algebras, their spectral theory and a study of the structure of locally convex quasi *-algebras. Special attention is given to the case where the locally convex quasi *-algebra is obtained by completing a C*-algebra under a locally convex *-algebra topology, coarser than the C*-topology. Introducing the subject to graduate students and researchers wishing to build on their knowledge of the usual theory of Banach and/or locally convex algebras, this approach is supported by basic results and a wide variety of examples. 410 0$aLecture Notes in Mathematics,$x0075-8434 ;$v2257 606 $aFunctional analysis 606 $aOperator theory 606 $aAssociative rings 606 $aRings (Algebra) 606 $aFunctional Analysis$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/M12066 606 $aOperator Theory$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/M12139 606 $aAssociative Rings and Algebras$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/M11027 615 0$aFunctional analysis. 615 0$aOperator theory. 615 0$aAssociative rings. 615 0$aRings (Algebra). 615 14$aFunctional Analysis. 615 24$aOperator Theory. 615 24$aAssociative Rings and Algebras. 676 $a516.353 700 $aFragoulopoulou$b Maria$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0499452 702 $aTrapani$b Camillo$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910484091203321 996 $a-Algebras and their Representations$94175492 997 $aUNINA
