The economic advantages gained from the development of oil and gas are the basis for the economic and social development of the riparian states, but also cause significant transboundary harm to the ecosystem of the Caspian Sea. The book contends that, if the local environment grows more heavily contaminated through the extraction of mineral resources, it could lead to environmentally induced violence. It describes the ongoing conflicts, which are primarily due to various riparian states? territorial claims concerning the extraction of oil and gas resources, and argues that the current legal framework on the use and protection of the Caspian Sea is obsolete. Thus, the main objective of the book is to point out corresponding international legal mechanisms that could be used in order to settle these disputes and protect the Caspian Sea?s fragile environment from transboundary harm. 606 $aLaw of the sea 606 $aInternational law 606 $aInternational environmental law 606 $aEnergy policy 606 $aEnergy and state 606 $aEnvironmental law 606 $aEnvironmental policy 606 $aEnvironmental economics 606 $aEnvironmental management 606 $aLaw of the Sea, Air and Outer Space$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/R19060 606 $aInternational Environmental Law$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/R19070 606 $aEnergy Policy, Economics and Management$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/112000 606 $aEnvironmental Law/Policy/Ecojustice$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/U16002 606 $aEnvironmental Economics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W48000 606 $aWater Policy/Water Governance/Water Management$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/215000 615 0$aLaw of the sea. 615 0$aInternational law. 615 0$aInternational environmental law. 615 0$aEnergy policy. 615 0$aEnergy and state. 615 0$aEnvironmental law. 615 0$aEnvironmental policy. 615 0$aEnvironmental economics. 615 0$aEnvironmental management. 615 14$aLaw of the Sea, Air and Outer Space. 615 24$aInternational Environmental Law. 615 24$aEnergy Policy, Economics and Management. 615 24$aEnvironmental Law/Policy/Ecojustice. 615 24$aEnvironmental Economics. 615 24$aWater Policy/Water Governance/Water Management. 676 $a333.7 676 $a333.79 676 $a338926 676 $a340 700 $aJanusz-Pawletta$b Barbara$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0921258 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910484029703321 996 $aThe Legal Status of the Caspian Sea$92066356 997 $aUNINA
