ICIAR is organized annually, and alternates between Europe and North America. ICIAR 2004 was held in Porto, Portugal. The idea of o?ering these conferences came as a result of discussion between researchers in Portugal and Canada to encourage collaboration and exchange, mainly between these two countries, but also with the open participation of other countries, addressing recent advances in theory, methodology and applications. TheresponsetothecallforpapersforICIAR2005wasencouraging.From295 full papers submitted, 153 were ?nally accepted (80 oral presentations, and 73 posters). The review process was carried out by the Program Committee m- bersandotherreviewers;allareexpertsinvariousimageanalysisandrecognition areas. Each paper was reviewed by at least two reviewers, and also checked by the conference co-chairs. The high quality of the papers in these proceedings is attributed ?rst to the authors, and second to the quality of the reviews provided by the experts. We would like to thank the authors for responding to our call, andwewholeheartedlythankthe reviewersfor theirexcellentwork, andfortheir timely response. It is this collective e?ort that resulted in the strong conference program and high-quality proceedings in your hands. 410 0$aImage Processing, Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition, and Graphics,$x3004-9954 ;$v3656 606 $aPattern recognition systems 606 $aApplication software 606 $aComputer vision 606 $aImage processing$xDigital techniques 606 $aArtificial intelligence 606 $aComputer graphics 606 $aAutomated Pattern Recognition 606 $aComputer and Information Systems Applications 606 $aComputer Vision 606 $aComputer Imaging, Vision, Pattern Recognition and Graphics 606 $aArtificial Intelligence 606 $aComputer Graphics 615 0$aPattern recognition systems. 615 0$aApplication software. 615 0$aComputer vision. 615 0$aImage processing$xDigital techniques. 615 0$aArtificial intelligence. 615 0$aComputer graphics. 615 14$aAutomated Pattern Recognition. 615 24$aComputer and Information Systems Applications. 615 24$aComputer Vision. 615 24$aComputer Imaging, Vision, Pattern Recognition and Graphics. 615 24$aArtificial Intelligence. 615 24$aComputer Graphics. 676 $a621.36/7 686 $a54.74$2bcl 701 $aKamel$b Mohamed$01750254 701 $aCampilho$b A$01750253 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910483748003321 996 $aImage analysis and recognition$94184842 997 $aUNINA
