His tale of glory was short but blazingly bright, terminating at Trafalgar in 1805, having made his name at the battle of the Nile and Copenhagen earlier in the wars. However, the wars with France thereafter did not terminate until 1815, with a brief respite in 1814; how then, without Nelson, was the supremacy of the Royal Navy maintained? Edward Fraser provides a good deal of the answer in his book, which seeks to sketch a picture of the captains, officers, and sailors who executed Nelson's orders with gusto, determination and, in many cases, with some of their own flair. The "Band of Brothers" that Nelson led and inspired are described in detail - their actions and deeds, which may have been outshone by those of their leader - but they were great fighting men in their own right, Codrington, Suamarez, Troubridge et al. Fraser is adept at using the sources of all ranks and includes the ordinary seaman's view as well as more junior officers, to complete the view of the sailors who fought and won the war on the seas.Highly recommended.Illustrations - 16 - all includedMaps - 4 - all included 676 $a940.2745 700 $aFraser$b Edward$01371024 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910164251703321 996 $aThe Sailors Whom Nelson Led$93399659 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04599nam 22007695 450 001 9910483323403321 005 20200706170533.0 010 $a3-319-51676-0 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-319-51676-9 035 $a(CKB)3710000001006524 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-319-51676-9 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC6286348 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5578124 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL5578124 035 $a(OCoLC)969122791 035 $a(PPN)198340257 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000001006524 100 $a20161216d2017 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnn|008mamaa 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aPractical Aspects of Declarative Languages $e19th International Symposium, PADL 2017, Paris, France, January 16-17, 2017, Proceedings /$fedited by Yuliya Lierler, Walid Taha 205 $a1st ed. 2017. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer International Publishing :$cImprint: Springer,$d2017. 215 $a1 online resource (X, 215 p. 31 illus.) 225 1 $aProgramming and Software Engineering ;$v10137 311 $a3-319-51675-2 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $aEliminating Irrelevant Non-determinism in Functional Logic Programs -- Canonicalizing High-Level Constructs in Picat -- An Overview of P_rhoLog -- Integrating Answer Set Programming with Object-oriented Languages -- Extending Answer Set Programs with Interpreted Functions as First-class Citizens -- Lowering the learning curve for declarative programming: a Python API for the IDP system -- Failing Faster: Overlapping Patterns for Property-Based Testing -- Boltzmann Samplers for Closed Simply-Typed Lambda Terms -- Selection Equilibria of Higher-Order Games -- DALI for Cognitive Robotics: Principles and Prototype Implementation -- Funky Grooves: Declarative Programming of Full-Fledged Musical Applications -- A Domain-Specific Language for Software-Defined Radio -- A Declarative DSL for Customizing ASCII Art -- Using Iterative Deepening for Probabilistic Logic Inference. 330 $aThis book constitutes the proceedings of the 19th International Symposium on Practical Aspects of Declarative Languages, PADL 2017, held in Paris, France, in January 2017 and collocated with the ACM SIGPLAN Symposium on Principles of Programming Languages. The 14 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 27 submissions. They deal with novel applications and implementation techniques for all forms of declarative languages, including but not limited to logic, constraint, and functional languages. . 410 0$aProgramming and Software Engineering ;$v10137 606 $aProgramming languages (Electronic computers) 606 $aComputer programming 606 $aComputer logic 606 $aSoftware engineering 606 $aArtificial intelligence 606 $aApplication software 606 $aProgramming Languages, Compilers, Interpreters$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I14037 606 $aProgramming Techniques$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I14010 606 $aLogics and Meanings of Programs$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I1603X 606 $aSoftware Engineering$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I14029 606 $aArtificial Intelligence$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I21000 606 $aComputer Appl. in Administrative Data Processing$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/I2301X 615 0$aProgramming languages (Electronic computers). 615 0$aComputer programming. 615 0$aComputer logic. 615 0$aSoftware engineering. 615 0$aArtificial intelligence. 615 0$aApplication software. 615 14$aProgramming Languages, Compilers, Interpreters. 615 24$aProgramming Techniques. 615 24$aLogics and Meanings of Programs. 615 24$aSoftware Engineering. 615 24$aArtificial Intelligence. 615 24$aComputer Appl. in Administrative Data Processing. 676 $a005.131 702 $aLierler$b Yuliya$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aTaha$b Walid$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910483323403321 996 $aPractical Aspects of Declarative Languages$9772495 997 $aUNINA
