Entrepreneur Dave Fick interviewed several hundred women and men who were willing to assume risks, often spectacular ones, for personal economic gain-but who did it legally, ethically, and who are now giving back to their nations and societies at least as much as they received. They speak openly of their hardships and failures, what they did right and what they did wrong, and their accounts are remarkable. We gain insight into the way business must be done under harsh political and economic circumstances, but we also learn unusual techniques and strategies that others in more favorable milieus can use to accomplish similar feats. With commentaries from notable scholars and other businesspeople and with Fick's own first-hand onsite observations, the book is a self-educating colloquium, a collection of personal meetings, accounts, letters, emails and telephone calls between Fick, his counterparts in Africa, and others around the world. It is also an attempt to encourage a dialogue that will accelerate the exchange and spread of knowledge and ideas, and a way to help the people of Africa build a peaceful and better society for themselves and the world. 606 $aEntrepreneurship$zAfrica 606 $aNew business enterprises$zAfrica 606 $aBusinesspeople$zAfrica 606 $aSuccess in business$zAfrica 607 $aAfrica$xEconomic conditions$y1960- 607 $aAfrica$xSocial conditions$y1960- 615 0$aEntrepreneurship 615 0$aNew business enterprises 615 0$aBusinesspeople 615 0$aSuccess in business 676 $a338/.04/096 700 $aFick$b David S$01797926 801 0$bDLC 801 1$bDLC 801 2$bDLC 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910955352703321 996 $aEntrepreneurship in Africa$94340465 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02545nam 22005535 450 001 9910483309903321 005 20251226203609.0 010 $a3-319-04244-0 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-319-04244-2 035 $a(CKB)3710000000078814 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-319-04244-2 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001090526 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11657121 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001090526 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11020768 035 $a(PQKB)10381779 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3093047 035 $a(PPN)176109218 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000078814 100 $a20131223d2013 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnn|008mamaa 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aCurrent Trends in Web Engineering $eICWE 2013 International Workshops ComposableWeb, QWE, MDWE, DMSSW, EMotions, CSE, SSN, and PhD Symposium, Aalborg, Denmark, July 8-12, 2013.
