The collection, the first of its kind, constitutes a sustained critical engagement with the twenty-nine films made by this highly acclaimed yet under-studied filmmaker. The eleven essays included come from scholars whose work stands at the intersection of the fields of Latin American and Mexican Film Studies, Gender and Queer Studies, Cultural Studies, History and Literary studies. Ripstein?s films, often scripted by his long-time collaborator, Paz Alicia Garciadiego, represent an unprecedented achievement in Mexican and Latin American film. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Ripstein has successfully maintained a prolific output unmatched by any director in the region. Though several book-length studies have been published in Spanish, French, German, and Greek, to date no analogue exists in English. This volume provides a much-needed contribution to the field. 606 $aMotion pictures, American 606 $aEthnology?Latin America 606 $aMotion pictures?Production and direction 606 $aLatin America?Politics and government 606 $aCommunication 606 $aLatin American Cinema and TV$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/413120 606 $aLatin American Culture$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/411080 606 $aDirecting$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/413080 606 $aLatin American Politics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/911150 606 $aMedia and Communication$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/412010 615 0$aMotion pictures, American. 615 0$aEthnology?Latin America. 615 0$aMotion pictures?Production and direction. 615 0$aLatin America?Politics and government. 615 0$aCommunication. 615 14$aLatin American Cinema and TV. 615 24$aLatin American Culture. 615 24$aDirecting. 615 24$aLatin American Politics. 615 24$aMedia and Communication. 676 $a791.430972 702 $aGutiérrez Silva$b Manuel$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aDuno Gottberg$b Luis$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910481956503321 996 $aThe Films of Arturo Ripstein$92851797 997 $aUNINA
