Shanghai Sikhs and The Indian National Army -- Conclusion: Circulation, Networks, and Subalterns in Global History. 330 $aFrom Policemen to Revolutionaries uncovers the less-known story of Sikh emigrants in Shanghai in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Yin Cao argues that the cross-border circulation of personnel and knowledge across the British colonial and the Sikh diasporic networks, facilitated the formation of the Sikh community in Shanghai, eventually making this Chinese city one of the overseas hubs of the Indian nationalist struggle. By adopting a translocal approach, this study elaborates on how the flow of Sikh emigrants, largely regarded as subalterns, initially strengthened but eventually unhinged British colonial rule in East and Southeast Asia. 410 0$aStudies in Global Social History$v30/10. 606 $aSikhs$zChina$zShanghai$xHistory 606 $aSikhs$zChina$zShanghai$xSocial conditions 606 $aSikh diaspora 606 $aSikh nationalism$xHistory 607 $aShanghai (China)$xHistory 607 $aShanghai (China)$xEthnic relations 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aSikhs$xHistory. 615 0$aSikhs$xSocial conditions. 615 0$aSikh diaspora. 615 0$aSikh nationalism$xHistory. 676 $a959.570088/2964 700 $aCao$b Yin$c(Historian)$01026311 801 0$bNL-LeKB 801 1$bNL-LeKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910481026803321 996 $aFrom policemen to revolutionaries$92441164 997 $aUNINA
