Despite the central role played by polemics in ancient philosophy, the forms and mechanisms of philosophical polemics are not usually the subject of systematic scholarly attention. The present volume seeks to shed new light on familiar texts by approaching them from this neglected angle. The contributions address questions such as: What is the role of polemic in a philosophical discourse? What were the polemical strategies developed by ancient philosophers? To what extent did polemics contribute to the shaping of important philosophical doctrines or standpoint? 410 0$aJerusalem studies in religion and culture ;$vVOLUME 21. 606 $aPhilosophy, Ancient 606 $aPolemics 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aPhilosophy, Ancient. 615 0$aPolemics. 676 $a180 702 $aWeisser$b Sharon 702 $aThaler$b Naly$f1973- 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910480470403321 996 $aStrategies of polemics in Greek and Roman Philosophy$91552780 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02887nam 2200481 450 001 9910644264003321 005 20230518042131.0 010 $a9783031202292$b(electronic bk.) 010 $z9783031202285 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-031-20229-2 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC7176825 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL7176825 035 $a(CKB)26015343700041 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-031-20229-2 035 $a(PPN)267808410 035 $a(EXLCZ)9926015343700041 100 $a20230518d2023 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 12$aA new generation of cosmic superstring simulations /$fJose? As such these objects, if detected, provide unequivocal evidence of physics beyond the Standard Model. This means they are prime targets for new observational facilities. However, our understanding of defects is heavily bottlenecked by computational limitations. In this book, the author explores the use of accelerator hardware to alleviate this problem, presenting the world?s first (multiple-)GPU defect simulations. Such simulations can evolve a network of line-like cosmic strings at an unprecedented resolution. Then these are used to obtain the most accurate to date calibrations of semi-analytical modelling and to show the impact of accuracy on observational consequences of strings. Lastly, a modified version of this application is used to study interconnected networks of strings in greater detail than ever before. This book benefits any student or researcher who wishes to learn about field theory simulations in the early Universe and about supercomputing with multiple accelerators. 410 0$aSpringer theses. 606 $aSuperstring theories 615 0$aSuperstring theories. 676 $a539.7258 700 $aCorreira$b Jose?
