Although practiced by many instructors for years, SoTL has garnered national attention resulting in a spate of new journals to publish pedagogical research. SoTL helps students, fosters faculty development, and has been integrated into higher education. 410 0$aNew directions for teaching and learning ;$vno. 136. 606 $aEducational evaluation 606 $aEducation, Higher$xResearch 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aEducational evaluation. 615 0$aEducation, Higher$xResearch. 676 $a379.158 701 $aGurung$b Regan A. Are organic foods really better for you? Will the cure to cancer eventually come from a newly discovered plant which dwells in the Amazon basin? Will medicines ever become affordable and available to the neediest? How will we produce enough food to keep up with an ever-increasing world population? Written with these issues in mind, Let Thy Food Be Thy Medicine is a response to the current flood of conflicting information regarding the use ofplants for both consumption and medicinal purposes. Kathleen Hefferon addresses the myths and popular beliefs surrounding the application of plants in human health, revealing both their truths and inaccuracies, and provides an overview of the technologies scientists are using to further their research. The book covers herbal medicines, functional and biofortified foods, plants and antibiotics, edible vaccines, and organic versus genetically modified foods, discussing each from a scientific standpoint. It these topics together for the first time, providing a much-needed overview of plants as medicine. Intended for scientists and professionals in related disciplines as well as the interested reader educated in the sciences, this book will confront claims made in the media with science andscientific analysis, providing readers with enough background to allow them to make their own judgments. 606 $aMateria medica, Vegetable 606 $aHerbs$xTherapeutic use 606 $aEthnobotany 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aMateria medica, Vegetable. 615 0$aHerbs$xTherapeutic use. 615 0$aEthnobotany. 676 $a615.3/21 700 $aHefferon$b Kathleen$0975648 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910464670903321 996 $aLet thy food be thy medicine$92221622 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03911nam 22006135 450 001 9910480286803321 005 20210716024704.0 010 $a0-8147-4498-2 024 7 $a10.18574/9780814744987 035 $a(CKB)2670000000386860 035 $a(EBL)1225009 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000916164 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12431759 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000916164 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10885384 035 $a(PQKB)10270105 035 $a(StDuBDS)EDZ0001326064 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1225009 035 $a(OCoLC)852389107 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse27833 035 $a(DE-B1597)547929 035 $a(DE-B1597)9780814744987 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000386860 100 $a20200608h20132013 fg 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnn#---|un|u 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aPagan Family Values $eChildhood and the Religious Imagination in Contemporary American Paganism /$fS. Yet as it enters its fifth decade, it is incorporating growing numbers of second-generation Pagans for whom Paganism is a family tradition, not a religious worldview arrived at via a spiritual quest. In Pagan Family Values, S. Zohreh Kermani explores the ways in which North American Pagan families pass on their beliefs to their children, and how the effort to socialize children influences this new religious movement. The first ethnographic study of the everyday lives of contemporary Pagan families, this volume brings their experiences into conversation with contemporary issues in American religion. Through formal interviews with Pagan families, participant observation at various pagan events, and data collected via online surveys, Kermani traces the ways in which Pagan parents transmit their religious values to their children. Rather than seeking to pass along specific religious beliefs, Pagan parents tend to seek to instill values, such as religious tolerance and spiritual independence, that will remain with their children throughout their lives, regardless of these children's ultimate religious identifications. Pagan parents tend to construct an idealized, magical childhood for their children that mirrors their ideal childhoods. The socialization of children thus becomes a means by which adults construct and make meaningful their own identities as Pagans. Kermani?s meticulous fieldwork and clear, engaging writing provide an illuminating look at parenting and religious expression in Pagan households and at how new religions pass on their beliefs to a new generation. 410 0$aNew and Alternative Religions 606 $aFamilies$xReligious life 606 $aNeopaganism$zUnited States 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aFamilies$xReligious life. 615 0$aNeopaganism 676 $a299.94 700 $aKermani$b S.
