Chen is a leading contemporary Chinese thinker and spokesperson for a new Daoist approach to existential and socio-political issues. He was born in mainland China in 1935, but after having resettled to Taiwan, he received his education there and was a student activist in the 1960s. He became famous in the Chinese-speaking world with his writings on Nietzsche, Laozi and Zhuangzi. At present he is a Professor at Peking University. This volume collects representative essays from the past 25 years which not only outline Chen?s interpretation of Daoism as a deeply humanist way of thinking and living, but also show how he employs this philosophy in a critique of totalitarianism and neo-imperialism. 410 0$aModern Chinese philosophy ;$vVolume 15. 606 $aTaoist philosophy 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aTaoist philosophy. 676 $a181/.114 700 $aChen$b Guying$0852757 702 $aMoeller$b Hans-Georg$f1964- 702 $aJones$b David 702 $aFlavel$b Sarah 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910479863003321 996 $aThe humanist spirit of Daoism$91904328 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03433nam 2200613 a 450 001 9910789567203321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a1-283-12068-2 010 $a9786613120687 010 $a90-04-21486-0 024 7 $a10.1163/ej.9789004194656.i-370 035 $a(CKB)2670000000092720 035 $a(EBL)717555 035 $a(OCoLC)727950780 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000502619 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11356176 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000502619 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10519197 035 $a(PQKB)11390670 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC717555 035 $a(OCoLC)705350757$z(OCoLC)702615770 035 $a(nllekb)BRILL9789004214866 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL717555 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10470485 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL312068 035 $a(PPN)170415171 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000092720 100 $a20110301d2011 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aDong Zhongshu, a "Confucian" heritage and the Chunqiu fanlu$b[electronic resource] /$fby Michael Loewe 210 $aBoston $cBrill$d2011 215 $a1 online resource (382 p.) 225 1 $aChina studies,$x1570-1344 ;$vv. 20 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a90-04-19465-7 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $tPreliminary Material /$rM. In challenging these assumptions, this book examines Dong? career and reputation, and his supposed authorship of the Chunqiu fanlu , for long subject to question. It is concluded that while some parts of that text may well represent the teachings that Dong Zhongshu promoted, some may perhaps date from as late as 79 CE; still others bear an affinity to writings which, banned as being suspect or potentially subversive, survive in no more than fragmentary form. 410 0$aChina studies (Leiden, Netherlands) ;$vv. 20. 606 $aConfucianism$zChina$xHistory 615 0$aConfucianism$xHistory. 676 $a181/.112 700 $aLoewe$b Michael$0635017 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910789567203321 996 $aDong Zhongshu, a "Confucian" heritage and the Chunqiu fanlu$93690177 997 $aUNINA
