An adjustment of institutional and pedagogical objectives is needed to refocus on educating as many students as possible, including those who might leave before graduation.Much of the pedagogy, curricula, and methodologies of composition studies assume students are preparing for further academic study. Retention and Resistance argues for a new kairotic pedagogy that moves toward an emphasis on the present classroom experience and takes students' varied experiences into account. Infusing the discourse of retention with three individual student voices, Powell explores the obligation of faculty to participate in designing an institution that educates all students, no matter where they are in their educational journey or how far that journey will go"--$cProvided by publisher. 606 $aCollege dropouts$zUnited States$xPrevention 606 $aCollege attendance$zUnited States 606 $aCollege dropouts$zUnited States$vHandbooks, manuals, etc 606 $aDropout behavior, Prediction of$zUnited States$vHandbooks, manuals, etc 606 $aCollege dropouts$xResearch$zUnited States 615 0$aCollege dropouts$xPrevention. 615 0$aCollege attendance 615 0$aCollege dropouts 615 0$aDropout behavior, Prediction of 615 0$aCollege dropouts$xResearch 676 $a378.1/6913 686 $aLAN005000$2bisacsh 700 $aPowell$b Pegeen Reichert$f1970-$01641808 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910810773203321 996 $aRetention and resistance$93995496 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02955nam 22005531n 450 001 9910477331103321 005 20250705110030.0 010 $a9780472128204 010 $a0472128205 024 7 $a10.3998/mpub.19999 035 $a(CKB)4100000011674324 035 $a(MiU)10.3998/mpub.19999 035 $a(ODN)ODN0006091173 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000011674324 100 $a19880715|1971|||| u|| | 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurunu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 14$aThe economy of communist China, 1949-1969$eWith a bibliography of selected materials on Chinese economic development 210 $d2020 210 1$aAnn Arbor, Michigan :$cUniversity of Michigan Press,$d1971. 215 $a1 online resource (79 pages) 225 1 $aMichigan Monographs in Chinese Studies ;$vno. 9 311 08$a9780472038398 311 08$a0472038397 320 $aIncludes bibliography. 330 $aEconomic development in mainland China during the first two decades of Communist control provides a typical example for the difficult task to transform a vast underdeveloped agrarian economy into a modern industrial one. In the first half of this period, a series of massive transformations of social and economic institutions was accompanied by a drafted industrialization program; the result was an impressive speed-up in economic growth. The second decade witnessed an economic crisis (1960?62) and a political upheaval (1966?68). These disruptions marred the economic performance over the period as a whole. Consequently, the long-term growth rate appears to have been only moderate. The Economy of Communist China reviews selected aspects of the economy. After examining the development strategy, it analyzes the quantitative trends and the structural changes. The book goes on to analyze the key factors contributing to the earlier growth and the elements responsible for the later disruption and finally assesses the impact of the Cultural Revolution on the Chinese economy and the prospects of the current Third Five-Year Plan. The text includes a bibliography of selected materials on Chinese economic development. 410 0$aMichigan monographs in Chinese studies ;$vno. 9. 606 $aNonfiction$2OverDrive 606 $aMulti-Cultural$2OverDrive 606 $aPolitics$2OverDrive 606 $aSociology$2OverDrive 607 $aChina$xEconomic conditions$y1949- 615 17$aNonfiction. 615 7$aMulti-Cultural. 615 7$aPolitics. 615 7$aSociology. 676 $a330.9/51/05 686 $aPOL000000$aSOC000000$aSOC008000$2bisacsh 700 $aZheng$b Zhuyuan$0236763 712 02$aUniversity of Michigan.$bCenter for Chinese Studies. 801 0$bMiU 801 1$bMiU 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910477331103321 996 $aEconomy of communist China 1949-1969$91167296 997 $aUNINA
