It examines how the mechanistic-deterministic worldview derived from the Newtonian model has influenced the epistemology and methodology of IR (i.e., the idea that the world is constituted of independent fragments), and seeks ways to develop a new methodology for IR by drawing on the potential of a non-fragmented worldview. The author argues that it is this modern Western view of human beings (or societies) as isolated and separate from the world that prevents IR from finding new solutions to the questions of war and conflict. Drawing upon case studies and examples from film, this book instead proposes joy as an alternative methodology for studying IR, exploring the possibility of self-healing in physical and emotional trauma in extreme violent conditions. The author also discusses how quantum theory contributes to positive psychology in understanding happiness and empowerment, and demonstrates how these findings can further widen the study of IR. This book will be of much interest to students of gender studies, war and conflict studies, IR theory and critical security studies"--$cProvided by publisher. 410 0$aWar, politics and experience. 606 $aInternational relations$xSocial aspects 606 $aJoy 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aInternational relations$xSocial aspects. 615 0$aJoy. 676 $a327 700 $aPenttinen$b Elina.$0885742 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910463814503321 996 $aJoy and international relations$91977793 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02794nam 2200373 450 001 9910477047603321 005 20230513213710.0 035 $a(CKB)5470000000567466 035 $a(NjHacI)995470000000567466 035 $a(EXLCZ)995470000000567466 100 $a20230513d2020 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aAI art $emachine visions and warped dreams /$fJoanna Zylinska 210 1$aLondon :$cOpen Humanities Press,$d[2020] 210 4$d©2020 215 $a1 online resource (176 pages) $cillustrations 225 0 $aMedia : art : write : now 327 $aAI (and) art : an introduction -- A so-called intelligence -- The ethics of AI, or How to tell better stories about technology -- Why now? : AI as the Anthropocene imperative -- 'Can computers be creative?' : a misguided question -- Artists, robots, and 'fun' -- The work of art in the age of machinic creation -- Generative AI art as Candy Crush -- Seeing like a machine, telling like a human -- Undigital photography -- An Uber for art? -- From net art and post-Internet art to artificially intelligent art -- and beyond -- AI as another intelligence -- Future art, art's future : a conclusion -- (Art) gallery of links. 330 $aCan computers be creative? Is algorithmic art just a form of Candy Crush? Cutting through the smoke and mirrors surrounding computation, robotics and artificial intelligence,Joanna Zylinska argues that, to understand the promise of AI for the creative fields, we must not confine ourselves solely to the realm of aesthetics. Instead, we need to address the role and position of the human in the current technical setup - including the associated issues of labour, robotisation and, last but not least, extinction. Offering a critique of the socio-political underpinnings of AI, AI Art: Machine Visions and Warped Dreams raises poignant questions about the conditions of art making and creativity today. The book critically examines artworks that use AI, be it in the form of visual style transfer, algorithmic experiment or critical commentary. It also engages with their predecessors, including robotic art and net art. AI Art includes a project from Zylinska's own art practice titled 'View from the Window', which explores human and nonhuman forms of intelligence, perception and action. The book closes with speculation on future art - and on art's future. 517 $aAI Art 606 $aArt and computers 615 0$aArt and computers. 676 $a776.09046 700 $aZylinska$b Joanna$0802892 801 0$bNjHacI 801 1$bNjHacl 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910477047603321 996 $aAI Art$93027627 997 $aUNINA
