According to this influential account, American and Asian actors usually appear as passive recipients of normative knowledge produced in Europe. This book proposes a different perspective and shows, through a knowledge historical approach and several case studies, that the School of Salamanca has to be considered both an epistemic community and a community of practice that cannot be fixed to any individual place. Instead, the School of Salamanca encompassed a variety of different sites and actors throughout the world and thus represents a case of global knowledge production. Readership: All interested in the legal history, the history of knowledge, book history and history of philosophy and theology in early modern times, especially with regard to colonial Ibero-America and Asia. 410 0$aMax Planck studies in global legal history of the Iberian worlds. 517 $aSchool of Salamanca 606 $aLegal history$2bicssc 610 $aLegal history 615 7$aLegal history 676 $a001.209/031 700 $aDuve$b Thomas$0629726 701 $aEgío$b José Luis$01732185 701 $aBirr$b Christiane$01732186 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910476893103321 996 $aThe School of Salamanca$94146105 997 $aUNINA
