Assessing the likely stability of remittance flows could be a valuable input to the analysis of their external vulnerabilities. This paper argues that "altruism," as a motive to send money home, would contribute to the stability of these flows. Using a simple framework that relates workers' remittances to agricultural GDP, which is used as an indicator of economic "hardship" in the home country, evidence suggests that altruism could have played an important role in the flow of remittances to Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Pakistan, and Tunisia in recent years. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/130 606 $aEmigrant remittances$zMiddle East 606 $aEmigrant remittances$zAsia, Central 606 $aExports and Imports$2imf 606 $aForeign Exchange$2imf 606 $aRemittances$2imf 606 $aInternational Investment$2imf 606 $aLong-term Capital Movements$2imf 606 $aTrade: General$2imf 606 $aInternational economics$2imf 606 $aCurrency$2imf 606 $aForeign exchange$2imf 606 $aOutward remittances$2imf 606 $aExchange rates$2imf 606 $aExternal position$2imf 606 $aService exports$2imf 606 $aInternational finance$2imf 606 $aEmigrant remittances$2imf 606 $aExports$2imf 607 $aJordan$2imf 615 0$aEmigrant remittances 615 0$aEmigrant remittances 615 7$aExports and Imports 615 7$aForeign Exchange 615 7$aRemittances 615 7$aInternational Investment 615 7$aLong-term Capital Movements 615 7$aTrade: General 615 7$aInternational economics 615 7$aCurrency 615 7$aForeign exchange 615 7$aOutward remittances 615 7$aExchange rates 615 7$aExternal position 615 7$aService exports 615 7$aInternational finance 615 7$aEmigrant remittances 615 7$aExports 700 $aBouhga-Hagbe$b Jacques$01462071 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910788519603321 996 $aAltruism and Workers?
