We face a global crisis in economics and finance, a global ecological crisis, and a constant barrage of international disputes. Perhaps most dishearteningly, there seems to be little faith in our ability to address such difficult problems. However, there is also a more positive sense in which these are critical times. The world's current state of flux gives us a unique window of opportunity for shaping a new international order that will allow us to cope with current and future global crises. In Critical Theory in Critical Times, eleven of the most distinguished critical theorists offer new perspectives on recent crises and transformations of the global political and economic order. Essays from Jürgen Habermas, Seyla Benhabib, Cristina Lafont, Rainer Forst, Wendy Brown, Christoph Menke, Nancy Fraser, Rahel Jaeggi, Amy Allen, Penelope Deutscher, and Charles Mills address pressing issues including international human rights and democratic sovereignty, global neoliberalism, novel approaches to the critique of capitalism, critical theory's Eurocentric heritage, and new directions offered by critical race theory and postcolonial studies. Sharpening the conceptual tools of critical theory, the contributors to Critical Theory in Critical Times reveal new ways of expanding the diverse traditions of the Frankfurt School in response to some of the most urgent and important challenges of our times. 410 0$aNew directions in critical theory. 606 $aCritical theory 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aCritical theory. 676 $a142 686 $aCI 1190$2rvk 702 $aDeutscher$b Penelope$f1966- 702 $aLafont$b Cristina$f1963- 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910466286603321 996 $aCritical theory in critical times$92473905 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02948nam 22005053 450 001 9910164253003321 005 20230725020311.0 010 $a9781908692627 010 $a1908692626 035 $a(CKB)3810000000101160 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC4809096 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL4809096 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr11348906 035 $a(OCoLC)974581022 035 $a(BIP)059099280 035 $a(Exl-AI)4809096 035 $a(Perlego)3019449 035 $a(EXLCZ)993810000000101160 100 $a20210901d2011 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aJoachim Murat - Marshal of France and King of Naples 205 $a1st ed. 210 1$aSan Francisco :$cWagram Press,$d2011. 210 4$d©2011. 215 $a1 online resource (233 pages) 327 $aTitle page. 330 8 $aA first-rate biography of the famed Marshal Murat, the most famous cavalry leader of the Napoleonic Wars. Joachim Murat was born in Gascony, the department of Lot, and although his father was relatively affluent, no-one realized the spectacular rise that would lead him to a the crown of Naples and an indelible imprint on the history of his native France and all of Europe.Atteridge wrote a number of books on the men who worked as satellites to Napoleon, Emperor of the French, his commanders on the battlefield and the brothers he placed, or tried to place in power as a buffer to a vengeful Europe. Marshal Murat has often been caricatured as a dashing cavalry commander with little more brains than the horse he rode, however the portrait here painted is much more complex than the simplistic view carted out by some other historians. More than a superlative leader of cavalry, in the short campaigns of the emergent French army, he grew distant from Napoleon due to constant goadings and rebukes, he was a varied man, vain and pompous, a dedicated family man, yet possibly also cuckold. He was to find a ignominious grave, for firing squad, at Pizzo having attempted to emulate his former master's march on Paris in his adopted Naples.Highly recommended.Atteridge's book forms a companion to his other single volume biography of Marshal Ney and his work on the varied personalities on Napoleon's Brothers.Author- Andrew Hilliard Atteridge (1844-1912)Linked TOC and 7 Illustrations and 3 maps. 606 $aNapoleonic Wars, 1800-1815$7Generated by AI 606 $aMilitary history$7Generated by AI 615 0$aNapoleonic Wars, 1800-1815 615 0$aMilitary history 676 $a940.27092 700 $aAtteridge$b Andrew Hilliard$0811532 701 $aPublishing$b Pickle Partners$01077764 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910164253003321 996 $aJoachim Murat - Marshal of France and King of Naples$93399927 997 $aUNINA
