The Pyrrhonist's Revenge -- $tNotes -- $tIndex 330 $aThis book puts forward a much-needed reappraisal of Immanuel Kant's conception of and response to skepticism, as set forth principally in the Critique of Pure Reason. It is widely recognized that Kant's theoretical philosophy aims to answer skepticism and reform metaphysics--Michael Forster makes the controversial argument that those aims are closely linked. He distinguishes among three types of skepticism: "veil of perception" skepticism, which concerns the external world; Humean skepticism, which concerns the existence of a priori concepts and synthetic a priori knowledge; and Pyrrhonian skepticism, which concerns the equal balance of opposing arguments. Forster overturns conventional views by showing how the first of these types was of little importance for Kant, but how the second and third held very special importance for him, namely because of their bearing on the fate of metaphysics. He argues that Kant undertook his reform of metaphysics primarily in order to render it defensible against these types of skepticism. Finally, in a critical appraisal of Kant's project, Forster argues that, despite its strengths, it ultimately fails, for reasons that carry interesting broader philosophical lessons. These reasons include inadequate self-reflection and an underestimation of the resources of Pyrrhonian skepticism. 410 0$aPrinceton monographs in philosophy. 606 $aSkepticism 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aSkepticism. 676 $a149/.7309 700 $aForster$b Michael N$0776233 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910465338303321 996 $aKant and Skepticism$92473901 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04139nam 2200445 450 001 9910162662403321 005 20230810001934.0 010 $a1-4555-6306-4 010 $a1-4789-4368-8 035 $a(CKB)3710000001044428 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5368532 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL5368532 035 $a(OCoLC)972702013 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000001044428 100 $a20220803d2017 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 12$aA meatloaf in every oven $etwo chatty cooks, one iconic dish and dozens of recipes --from Mom's to Mario Batali's /$fFrank Bruni and Jennifer Steinhauer ; illustrations by Marilyn Pollack Naron 210 1$aNew York ;$aBoston :$cGrand Central Life & Style,$d[2017] 210 4$dİ2017 215 $a1 online resource (229 pages) 311 $a1-4555-6305-6 327 $aIntro -- Title Page -- Copyright -- Table of Contents -- Dedication -- Contributors -- Introduction -- Essential Equipment -- ONE: CLASSICS -- Dialogue on "Classics" -- Leslie Bruni's Sweet Nostalgic Loaf -- Annie Miler's Home-Style Loaf with Cheddar and Parsley -- Beef, Pork and Cremini Mushroom Loaf -- Painter's Meatloaf -- Eggs in Your Meatloaf -- Alex Guarnaschelli's Mom's Meatloaf -- Joan Futter's Meatloaf -- Clean Out the Fridge Meatloaf -- TWO: AROUND THE WORLD -- Dialogue on "Around the World" -- Pork and Beef Polpettone with Pancetta -- Bobby Flay's Korean-Style Meatloaf with Spicy Glaze -- Jewish Christmas Loaf -- Auvergne-Style Loaf with Prunes -- Cheesy Chorizo Loaf -- Chicken Curry Masala Loaf with Mango Chutney Glaze -- Swedish Meatball Loaf -- South African Bobotie Loaf -- Japanese Loaf with Miso and Mirin -- THREE: LAMB -- Dialogue on "Lamb" -- Greek Loaf with Lamb and Feta -- April Bloomfield's Lamb Loaf with Yogurt and Mint -- Meatloaf with Moroccan Flair -- Jerusalem Loaf with Sumac and Couscous -- Kibbeh Loaf with Pine Nuts -- Mike Solomonov's Spicy Merguez Loaf -- FOUR: CLUCK CLUCK GOBBLE GOBBLE -- Dialogue on "Cluck Cluck Gobble Gobble" -- Buffalo-Style Chicken Loaf with Blue Cheese -- Turkey Meatloaf Muffins -- Charlie Bird Turkey Loaf with Farro -- Spicy Turkey Loaf with Sriracha -- Michael White's Chicken Eggplant Loaf -- Hoisin Duck Loaf -- Jerk Chicken Loaf -- FIVE: MEATLESS LOAVES -- Dialogue on "Meatless Loaves" -- Tuna Melt Loaf -- Tuna Loaf Glazed with Mushrooms and Red Wine -- Melissa Clark's Salmon Loaf with Mustard and Capers -- Crab and Shrimp Loaf Muffins -- Daniel Patterson's Zucchini Loaf -- Michael Schwartz's Kasha Loaf with Caramelized Onion Gravy -- A Meatless Loaf for Dennis -- SIX: GUILTY PLEASURES -- Dialogue on "Guilty Pleasures" -- Cheeseburger and Fries Loaf -- Taco Meatloaf. 327 $aMario Batali's Stuffed Meatloaf -- Volpe Family Loaf with Ham -- Homely Homey Blue and Bacon Loaf -- Frito Pie Loaf -- Ricotta Meatball Loaf -- Mashed Potato Meatloaf -- SEVEN: POLITICAL POSTSCRIPT -- Dialogue on "Political Postscript" -- Oh Deer, Speaker Paul Ryan's Loaf -- Nancy Pelosi's Italian-Style Bison Loaf -- Senator Susan Collins's Bipartisan Loaf -- Senator Chuck Schumer's Omnibus Loaf -- EIGHT: SIDES -- Dialogue on "Sides" -- Helene's Extremely Delicious Mashed Potatoes -- Winter Salad of Fennel, Celery Root, Lemon and Pecorino -- Garret Fleming's Macaroni and Cheese -- Quick and Easy Super-Snappy Green Beans -- Amanda Hesser's Couscous with Celery, Parsley and Red Wine Vinegar -- Good Old Midwestern Potato Salad -- Jonathan's Roasted Broccoli -- "It's Maaaa-gic!"
