European researchers from a broad range of disciplines brought together under the European Research Network on Learning to Write Effectively were instructed to contribute short papers summarising their current activity. The papers are grouped around the four main themes. The first deals with issues around the development of basic (\'low-level\') writing skills, mainly in the early years of education. The second section focuses directly on issues around the teaching and learning of writing. This is divided into five parts that describe: evaluations of different forms of writing instruction, research exploring the processes by which writers learn, methods of text assessment in educational contexts, research exploring the effects of various learner and teacher variables on the development of writing skill, and conceptions of and variation in educational text genres. The third section reports research exploring effective document design. The final section has a main focus on tools for exploring the writing process. 410 0$aStudies in Writing$v25. 606 $aWriting 606 $aWritten communication 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aWriting. 615 0$aWritten communication. 676 $a808.042071 676 $a808.0666 701 $aTorrance$b Mark$0903754 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910464970703321 996 $aStudies in writing$92020113 997 $aUNINA LEADER 05581oam 2200721I 450 001 9910790448303321 005 20230725032619.0 010 $a1-136-67263-X 010 $a1-283-46051-3 010 $a9786613460516 010 $a1-136-67264-8 010 $a0-203-80902-5 024 7 $a10.4324/9780203809020 035 $a(CKB)2670000000148580 035 $a(EBL)738702 035 $a(OCoLC)797918840 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000677586 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11368240 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000677586 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10696496 035 $a(PQKB)10297695 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC738702 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL738702 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10533814 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL346051 035 $a(OCoLC)784185116 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000148580 100 $a20180706d2011 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aForeign direct investment in China $espillover effects on domestic enterprises /$fZiliang Deng 210 1$aAbingdon, Oxon :$cRoutledge,$d2011. 215 $a1 online resource (289 p.) 225 1 $aRoutledge studies in the modern world economy ;$v94 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 $a0-415-70297-6 311 $a0-415-59142-2 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $aForeign Direct Investment in China Spillover effects on domestic enterprises; Contents; List of figures; List of tables; List of abbreviations; Foreword; Acknowledgements; Part I Stylised facts and literature review; 1 Stylised facts on foreign direct investment inflow to China and its spillovers; Stylised facts on FDI in China; Productivity spillover of FDI; Factors governing productivity spillovers of FDI in China; Research questions; Book structure; 2 A review of foreign direct investment and productivity spillovers; Theories of FDI; Channels of FDI productivity spillovers 327 $aDeterminant factors of FDI productivity spilloversEmpirical methodologies; Conclusions; Part II Econometric analyses for quantification of spillover effects; 3 The interplay between foreign and domestic enterprises; Introduction; Methodology; Data; Empirical results; Conclusions; 4 What do the aggregate data tell us?; Productivity decomposition; Econometric estimations of spillover parameters; Part III A general equilibrium framework for quantification of spillover effects; 5 Computable general equilibrium modelling; Theoretical foundations; Model construction; Data 327 $aCalibration and "calibrated forms" of a CES economyA flowchart of CGE modelling; Software; Advantages and disadvantages of modelling FDI spillovers with CGE; Conclusions; 6 Data compilations; Data sources; Data consistency check; Data aggregation; Estimating data on FIEs, SOEs and private enterprises; Disaggregation of input-output table by ownership; Conclusions; 7 A benchmark CGE model for the Chinese economy and its extensions; Introduction; CGE model structure; A benchmark CGE model; Extension 1: FDI spillovers under monopolistic competition 327 $aExtension 2: FDI spillovers under firm heterogeneityConclusions; 8 Magnitude and pattern of productivity spillovers; An FDI shock to the benchmark economy (without spillovers); FDI spillovers under perfect competition; FDI spillovers under monopolistic competition; FDI spillovers under firm heterogeneity; Comparison across the three market structures; Conclusions; Part IV Significant impact of FDI productivity spillovers; 9 Swapping market access for productivity spillovers?; China's FDI policies; Costs and benefits of preferential FDI treatment; Assessment of tax harmonisation; Conclusions 327 $a10 Why was the Chinese banking system able to survive the global financial crisis?Introduction; The entry of foreign banks into China afterWTO accession; Channels of efficiency spillovers from FDI in the banking system; Data and methodology; Empirical results; Conclusions; 11 East Asian industry transfer, FDI productivity spillovers and US-China trade imbalance; US-China trade imbalance and its political impact; East Asian FDI in China; FDI promotes trade to the USA and increases the trade similarity; US import structure; Perspective on US-China trade; Policy implications; Conclusion 327 $a12 Concluding remarks 330 $aThis book provides an insightful exploration of whether foreign direct investment (FDI) can promote the productivity of domestic enterprises. The book is based on a series of dedicated research conducted in the context of the Chinese economy, which has been the largest FDI host among the developing economies since 1993.The main themes of this book are (a) based on the latest literature and first-hand research, outlining possible mechanisms through which foreign direct investment could promote the productivity of domestic enterprises; (b) developing a comprehensive research framework 410 0$aRoutledge studies in the modern world economy ;$v94. 606 $aInvestments, Foreign$zChina 606 $aIndustrial productivity$zChina 607 $aChina$xEconomic conditions 615 0$aInvestments, Foreign 615 0$aIndustrial productivity 676 $a332.67/30951 700 $aDeng$b Ziliang.$01488916 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910790448303321 996 $aForeign direct investment in China$93709339 997 $aUNINA
