Hierzu wird das Gros der althochdeutschen Textdenkmäler zuerst einer soziopragmatischen Einordnung unterzogen. Im Anschluss werden ausgewählte Texte aus dem Kommunikationsbereich der pastoralen Seelsorge bzw. des Gottesdienstes textgrammatisch analysiert. Die Kombination von sozio- und systemlinguistischem Ansatz ermöglicht profunde Aussagen über die an die Texte gestellten kommunikativen Aufgaben und deren erfolgreiche Umsetzung. Für beide Analyseschritte werden theoretisch reflektierte Systematiken entwickelt.
