While scholars have focused extensively on the political propaganda that infused daily life in Nazi Germany, they have paid little attention to the role played by commercial ads and sales culture in legitimizing and stabilizing the regime. Historian Pamela Swett explores the extent of the transformation of the German ads industry from the internationally infused republican era that preceded 1933 through the relative calm of the mid-1930s and into the war years. She argues that advertisements helped to normalize the concept of a "racial community," and that individual consumption played a larger role in the Nazi worldview than is often assumed. Furthermore, Selling under the Swastika demonstrates that commercial actors at all levels, from traveling sales representatives to company executives and ad designers, enjoyed relative independence as they sought to enhance their professional status and boost profits through the manipulation of National Socialist messages. 606 $aAdvertising$xPolitical aspects$zGermany$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aAdvertising$zGermany$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aAdvertising$zGermany$xHistory$y20th century 607 $aGermany$xHistory$y1933-1945 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aAdvertising$xPolitical aspects$xHistory 615 0$aAdvertising$xHistory 615 0$aAdvertising$xHistory 676 $a659.10943/09043 700 $aSwett$b Pamela$01026617 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910464553203321 996 $aSelling under the swastika$92441618 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02904oam 2200637I 450 001 9910464194003321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a1-136-52009-0 010 $a1-136-52016-3 010 $a1-315-01692-3 024 7 $a10.4324/9781315016924 035 $a(CKB)3710000000056474 035 $a(EBL)1542720 035 $a(OCoLC)863823560 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001156865 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11761724 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001156865 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11200715 035 $a(PQKB)10643168 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1542720 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL1542720 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10800234 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL762242 035 $a(OCoLC)863157859 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000056474 100 $a20180331e20031956 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 14$aThe economics of repressed inflation /$fHarold Karr Charlesworth 210 1$aLondon :$cRoutledge,$d2003. 215 $a1 online resource (175 p.) 225 1 $aRoutledge library editions. The Economics of Repressed Inflation is a micro-economic analysis of the effects of a partially controlled inflation in a peacetime economy. This analysis suggests that the combination of inflationary pressures and the control of consumption has economic effects on the price level and on the distribution of resources which may be as serious for the economy as the more widely recognized effects of an uncontrolled inflation. 410 0$aRoutledge library editions.$pEconomics ;$vII. 606 $aInflation (Finance)$zGreat Britain 606 $aCurrency question$zGreat Britain 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aInflation (Finance) 615 0$aCurrency question 676 $a332.41 700 $aCharlesworth$b H.
