Computer-mediated communication (CMC) is defined to include text-based interactive communication via the Internet, websites and other multimodal formats, and mobile communication. In addition to 'core' pragmatic and discourse-pragmatic phenomena the chapters cover pragmatically-focused research on types of CMC and pragmatic approaches to characteristic CMC phenomena. 410 0$aHandbook of pragmatics ;$vv. 9. 606 $aCommunication$xData processing 606 $aPragmatics$xData processing 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aCommunication$xData processing. 615 0$aPragmatics$xData processing. 676 $a302.23/1014 686 $aER 940$2rvk 701 $aHerring$b Susan C$0148381 701 $aStein$b Dieter$f1946-$0162690 701 $aVirtanen$b Tuija$0291280 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910464367903321 996 $aPragmatics of computer-mediated communication$92445208 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03936nam 22006615 450 001 9910255260003321 005 20240724133019.0 010 $a9783319636009 010 $a3319636006 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-319-63600-9 035 $a(CKB)4100000000587708 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-319-63600-9 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5056811 035 $a(Perlego)3497568 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000000587708 100 $a20170922d2017 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnn|008mamaa 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 14$aThe 'Sailor Prince' in the Age of Empire $eCreating a Monarchical Brand in Nineteenth-Century Europe /$fby Miriam Magdalena Schneider 205 $a1st ed. 2017. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer International Publishing :$cImprint: Palgrave Macmillan,$d2017. 215 $a1 online resource (XII, 309 p. 13 illus., 7 illus. in color.) 225 1 $aPalgrave Studies in Modern Monarchy,$x2947-5872 311 08$a9783319635996 311 08$a3319635999 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $a1. It highlights how four usually overlooked dynastic figures - the younger sons and brothers of monarchs such as Queen Victoria or Emperor William II - decisively helped to advertise their respective dynasties in the fiercely contested political and popular mass market, by aligning them with one of the most myth-invested cultural presences and power-political symbols of the Age of Empire: the navy. The 'Sailor Prince' in the Age of Empire traces the unusual professional careers, the adventurous empire travels and the multifaceted public representations of Prince Alfred of Britain (1844-1900), Prince Heinrich of Prussia (1862-1929), Prince Valdemar of Denmark (1858-1939) and Prince Georgios of Greece (1869-1957). Through the prism of these four personality brands, the study also investigates issues such as the role ofthe maritime sphere in national identity, the nature and extent of nineteenth-century monarchical modernization, the relevance of intra- and inter-imperial royal diplomacy in the Age of High Imperialism, and the curious collaboration of middle-class opinion-makers and entrepreneurs with Europe's monarchical establishment. 410 0$aPalgrave Studies in Modern Monarchy,$x2947-5872 606 $aEurope$xHistory$x1492- 606 $aMilitary history 606 $aCivilization$xHistory 606 $aHistory, Modern 606 $aImperialism 606 $aHistory of Modern Europe 606 $aMilitary History 606 $aCultural History 606 $aModern History 606 $aImperialism and Colonialism 615 0$aEurope$xHistory$x1492-. 615 0$aMilitary history. 615 0$aCivilization$xHistory. 615 0$aHistory, Modern. 615 0$aImperialism. 615 14$aHistory of Modern Europe. 615 24$aMilitary History. 615 24$aCultural History. 615 24$aModern History. 615 24$aImperialism and Colonialism. 676 $a940.903 700 $aSchneider$b Miriam Magdalena$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0926818 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910255260003321 996 $aThe 'Sailor Prince' in the Age of Empire$92081479 997 $aUNINA
