International Sample: Proxy Measures of (near) Failure 330 $aWe study a banking model in which banks invest in a riskless asset and compete in both deposit and risky loan markets. The model predicts that as competition increases, both loans and assets increase; however, the effect on the loans-to-assets ratio is ambiguous. Similarly, as competition increases, the probability of bank failure can either increase or decrease. We explore these predictions empirically using a cross-sectional sample of 2,500 U.S. banks in 2003, and a panel data set of about 2600 banks in 134 non-industrialized countries for the period 1993-2004. With both samples, we find tha 410 0$aIMF working paper ;$vWP/09/143. 606 $aBanks and banking$xEconometric models 606 $aCompetition$xEconometric models 606 $aAsset allocation 606 $aRisk management 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aBanks and banking$xEconometric models. 615 0$aCompetition$xEconometric models. 615 0$aAsset allocation. 615 0$aRisk management. 700 $aBoyd$b John H$0281840 701 $aDe Nicolo?$b Gianni$0375199 701 $aJalal$b Abu M$0990401 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bResearch Dept. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910464008303321 996 $aBank competition, risk, and asset allocations$92292181 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00981nam0 22002411i 450 001 UON00184974 005 20231205103149.390 010 $a22-470-0876-3 100 $a20030730d1988 |0itac50 ba 101 $afre 102 $aFR 105 $a|||| 1|||| 200 1 $aˆLa ‰région$fpar Jean-Marie Pontier 210 $aParis$cDalloz$d1988 - 386 p. ; 25 cm 410 1$1001UON00172117$12001 $aCollection "Collectivités Locales"$fsous la direction de Francis-Paul Bénoit$c - Paris$eDalloz 606 $aFrancia$xAmministrazione locale$3UONC034240$2FI 700 1$aPONTIER$bJean-Marie$3UONV107312$0245923 801 $aIT$bSOL$c20260123$gRICA 899 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO E ARCHIVIO STORICO$2UONSI 912 $aUON00184974 950 $aSIBA - SISTEMA BIBLIOTECARIO DI ATENEO E ARCHIVIO STORICO$dSI PUB D 0273 $eSI SC 25042 5 0273 996 $aRegion$9619553 997 $aUNIOR
