Some have viewed the internet as presenting good possibilities for theological work because it provides a democratic arena for sharing ideas, unrestricted by traditional hierarchies and concerns. None of these considerations quite capture the problems or benefits that the internet provides. Past research has chiefly focused on the category of negation from a cross-linguistic perspective, with probably less attention devoted to the study of negation across dialects of languages, or across contact languages. The observation of universal quantification in the scope of negation in the English spoken in Singapore, for example, is an area which has been largely under-researched in the literature, as has the rarely-reported phenomenon of negative raising in Singapore English. The present volume profiles some of the problems of negation in English and Singapore English, framed against the background of studies of negation in other contact dialects of English and pidgins/creoles, and offering a diverse range of theoretical approaches to the problems. 410 0$aStudies in language companion series ;$vVolume 183. 606 $aEnglish language$zSingapore$xGrammar 606 $aEnglish language$zSingapore$xDialects$xGrammar 606 $aEnglish language$zSingapore$xSpoken English 606 $aEnglish language$xNegatives 606 $aLanguages in contact$zSingapore 606 $aLanguage and culture$zSingapore 607 $aSingapore$xLanguages 615 0$aEnglish language$xGrammar. 615 0$aEnglish language$xDialects$xGrammar. 615 0$aEnglish language$xSpoken English. 615 0$aEnglish language$xNegatives. 615 0$aLanguages in contact 615 0$aLanguage and culture 676 $a427/.95957 702 $aZiegeler$b Debra 702 $aZhiming$b Bao 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910815396203321 996 $aNegation and contact$93989554 997 $aUNINA
