This book specifically focuses on conquest, exploitation of slave- and forced labor, mission, the formation of the Catholic Church after the council of Trent, Inquisition, popular religiosity, and postcolonial state formation. Attention is also given to the emergence of Protestant immigrant and mission churches, modern forms of exploitation of indigenous and Afro-American workers, Catholic-Protestant antagonisms from the beginning of ecumenism, liberation theology, the proliferation of Pentecostal churches, and the military dictatorships in the second half of the 20th Century. The inclusion of German research in this book is an important asset to the Anglo-American research area, in which information is disclosed that was previously unavailable in English. This book will present the reader with required handbook material on the history of Christianity on the South American continent, based on a tremendous breadth of literature. During his years as Technical Director in Central America, the author studied Mesoamerican Indian Cultures as well as the social conditions of the impoverished sectors of the population. This book is a compilation of the author?s extensive research while a lecturer of church history at the Theological Faculty of São Leopoldo (Brazil), as well as during visits to nearly all countries of Latin America, and as a visiting professor in Portugal, Brazil, Nicaragua, Cuba, Argentine and Peru. Thorough research was also completed while lecturing at the University of Cologne (Germany) on Iberian and Latin American History, as well as during his term as professorial chair of Richard Konetzke and Günter Kahle. This publication is an amalgamation of the knowledge and expertise the author gained during research from his entire career. 410 0$aReligion in the Americas$v13. 606 $aChristianity$zLatin America$xHistory 607 $aLatin America$xChurch history 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aChristianity$xHistory. 676 $a278 700 $aPrien$b Hans-Ju?rgen$0965645 701 $aBuckwalter$b Stephen E$0965646 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910462367303321 996 $aChristianity in Latin America$92190970 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03776nam 2200709Ia 450 001 9910451402103321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a0-8389-9849-6 035 $a(CKB)1000000000345621 035 $a(EBL)289096 035 $a(OCoLC)476043676 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000118669 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11145543 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000118669 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10055309 035 $a(PQKB)11517129 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3001582 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC289096 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3001582 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10179777 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL289096 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000345621 100 $a20060420d2006 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aCataloging cultural objects$b[electronic resource] $ea guide to describing cultural works and their images /$fMurtha Baca ... Now for the first time, under the leadership of the Visual Resources Association, a cross-section of five visual and cultural heritage experts, along with scores of reviewers from varied institutions, have created a new data content standard focused on cultural materials. This cutting-edge reference offers practical resources for cataloging and flexibility to meet the needs of a wide range of institutions?from libraries to museums to archives.
