For 1917, the author presents a critique of social historical interpretation of the Russian Revolution. Turning to NEP Russia, the author applies Robert Brenner's analysis of pre-capitalist modes of production and concludes that neither Bukharin nor Trotsky's NEP-premised programs of economic transformation and advance toward socialism were feasible. At the same time, he rejects the view that Stalinism was pre-destined to supplant NEP. Instead, he hypothesises that the superior alternative to Stalinism was NEP without collectivization and the Five-Year Plans ? a outcome that would have been possible had Bukharin and Trotsky joined forces to stop Stalin. 410 0$aHistorical materialism book series ;$v37. 606 $aOpposition (Political science)$zSoviet Union 606 $aRight and left (Political science)$zSoviet Union 606 $aSocialism$zSoviet Union 606 $aLabor unions$zSoviet Union 607 $aSoviet Union$xHistory$yRevolution, 1917-1921 607 $aSoviet Union$xHistory$yRevolution, 1917-1921$xHistoriography 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aOpposition (Political science) 615 0$aRight and left (Political science) 615 0$aSocialism 615 0$aLabor unions 676 $a947.084/1 700 $aMarot$b John Eric$f1953-$0971132 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910462077303321 996 $aThe October Revolution in prospect and retrospect$92207455 997 $aUNINA
