However, recently there have been calls to amend the Convention due to some ambiguous provisions which are unable to address a variety of contemporary maritime issues. This book evaluates the applicability and effectiveness of UNCLOS as a settlement mechanism for addressing ocean disputes. The book's central focus is on the South China Sea (SCS) dispute, one of the most complex and challenging ocean-related conflicts in the world. The book examines the ways in which an emphasis on sovereignty, threats to maritime security and overlapping maritime claims caused by the newly established maritime regimes authorized by UNCLOS are all contributing factors to the SCS dispute. The book considers the internal coherence of the Law of the Sea Convention regime and its dispute settlement procedures. It looks at participation in the UNCLOS negotiations, maritime legislation, and the dispute settlement practice of relevant States party to the SCS dispute. The author goes on to explore the relationship between UNCLOS and the regimes and institutions in the SCS, particularly in regard to issues of maritime security, marine environment protection, joint development of oil and gas and general political interaction. The author proposes practical mechanisms to resolve the dispute whilst also offering a final judgement on the effectiveness of UNCLOS for settling disputes. UNCLOS and Ocean Dispute Settlement will be of particular interest to academics, students and policy makers of international, shipping and maritime law as well as being of interest to academics and students in the field of international relations"--$cProvided by publisher. 606 $aLaw of the sea 606 $aMaritime law 606 $aMarine resources conservation$xLaw and legislation 607 $aSouth China Sea 607 $aSpratly Islands$xInternational status 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aLaw of the sea. 615 0$aMaritime law. 615 0$aMarine resources conservation$xLaw and legislation. 676 $a341.4/480916472 700 $aHong$b Nong.$0943759 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910461792003321 996 $aUNCLOS and ocean dispute settlement$92130427 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02136oam 2200577 450 001 9910713512703321 005 20200604104625.0 035 $a(CKB)5470000002502540 035 $a(OCoLC)680272329$z(OCoLC)622329099$z(OCoLC)667939828 035 $a(OCoLC)995470000002502540 035 $a(EXLCZ)995470000002502540 100 $a20101110d1987 ua 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurbn||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aCost effectiveness of the U.S. Geological Survey's stream-gaging program in Wisconsin /$fby J.F. Larkin, Emeritus Professor of Politics, University of California at Santa Cruz, USA "This interesting volume brings together a stellar cast of international experts on nuclear policy and arms control. Their contributions echo the history of the nuclear age over more than five decades and display the evolution of thinking about the dangers and the imperatives associated with nuclear weapons. This collection also reflects the unique role that ISODARCO has played in the field for more than half a century." - Steven E. Miller, Director, International Security Program, Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Harvard Kennedy School "This collection of essays featuring many of theleading thinkers on nuclear disarmament, arms control and verification should be essential reading for both practitioners and researchers in the field." - Tariq Rauf, former Head of Verification and Security Policy Coordination, International Atomic Energy Agency This volume is a collection of contributions by world-leading experts in the nuclear field who participated in the educational activities of the International School on Disarmament and Research on Conflicts (ISODARCO). It features some of most prominent scholars and practitioners who contributed in fundamental ways to shaping policies, strategies, theories, scholarly studies, and debates in the field of non-proliferation and disarmament. On the occasion of ISODARCO's 50th anniversary this book revisits a selection of contributions that capture the pressing issues during the five decades of continuous engagement in disarmament and non-proliferation education. 606 $aPolitics and war 606 $aPeace 606 $aSecurity systems 606 $aNuclear fusion 606 $aMilitary and Defence Studies 606 $aPeace and Conflict Studies 606 $aSecurity Science and Technology 606 $aNuclear Fusion 615 0$aPolitics and war. 615 0$aPeace. 615 0$aSecurity systems. 615 0$aNuclear fusion. 615 14$aMilitary and Defence Studies. 615 24$aPeace and Conflict Studies. 615 24$aSecurity Science and Technology. 615 24$aNuclear Fusion. 676 $a355 702 $aForadori$b Paolo 702 $aGiacomello$b Giampiero 702 $aPascolini$b Alessandro 801 0$bMiFhGG 801 1$bMiFhGG 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910300513103321 996 $aArms Control and Disarmament$92057036 997 $aUNINA
