Playing an extremely important role in the economic life of the Roman world, they were also a key instrument for replenishing and even increasing the size of the citizen body. This book presents an original synthesis, for the first time covering both Republic and Empire in a single volume. While providing up-to-date discussions of most significant aspects of the phenomenon, the book also offers a new understanding of the practice of manumission, its role in the organisation of slave labour and the Roman economy, as well as the deep-seated ideological concerns to which it gave rise. It locates the freedman in a broader social and economic context, explaining the remarkable popularity of manumission in the Roman world. 606 $aFreedmen$zRome$xHistory 606 $aSlaves$xEmancipation$zRome 615 0$aFreedmen$xHistory. 615 0$aSlaves$xEmancipation 676 $a306.3/620937 700 $aMouritsen$b Henrik$0176731 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910461747403321 996 $aFreedman in the Roman world$9265200 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03253nam 2200577 450 001 9910480443503321 005 20170822145503.0 010 $a90-04-30291-3 024 7 $a10.1163/9789004302914 035 $a(CKB)3710000000452252 035 $a(EBL)2110737 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001517991 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12621498 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001517991 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11524418 035 $a(PQKB)11100463 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC2110737 035 $a(OCoLC)914709912$z(OCoLC)915311614 035 $a(nllekb)BRILL9789004302914 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000452252 100 $a20150804h20152015 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 14$aThe very idea of organization $esocial ontology today : Kantian and Hegelian reconsiderations /$fby Christian H. It takes as its starting point a debate in organization studies about the foundations of organizational research. This debate, however, is running into difficulties regarding the basic concept of the reality that organization studies deal with, that is regarding the ontology of organization. A convincing organizational ontology is not in sight. Therefore, Krijnen introduces a new meta-perspective, offering a more comprehensive and more fundamental social ontology in general as well as an organizational ontology in particular. Exploring the Kantian and Hegelian tradition of philosophy, he convincingly shows that a rejuvenated type of German idealism contains intriguing possibilities for developing a present-day social and organizational philosophy. 410 0$aCritical studies in German idealism ;$vVolume 16. 606 $aOrganizational sociology$xPhilosophy 606 $aOntology 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aOrganizational sociology$xPhilosophy. 615 0$aOntology. 676 $a302.3/501 700 $aKrijnen$b Christian$0986135 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910480443503321 996 $aThe very idea of organization$92253986 997 $aUNINA
