Scholars have addressed Zhang?s revolutionary and nationalist thought, but until this work there has not been any sustained engagement with Zhang?s Buddhist writings which aimed to understand and criticize the world from the perspective of consciousness. These philosophical works are significant because they exemplify how, as Chinese intellectuals entered the global capitalist world, they constantly tried to find resources to create an alternative. As the author argues in the conclusion, this desire to create an alternative to capitalism remained throughout twentieth century China and continues today in the works of critical intellectuals such as Wang Hui. Thus this work is important not only to understand our past, but to hope for a better future. 410 0$aLeiden series in comparative historiography ;$vv. 4. 606 $aBuddhist philosophy 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aBuddhist philosophy. 676 $a181/.043 700 $aMurthy$b Viren$0897337 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910461597303321 996 $aThe political philosophy of Zhang Taiyan$92032684 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02073oam 2200493M 450 001 9910715733803321 005 20191123063212.8 035 $a(CKB)5470000002514738 035 $a(OCoLC)1065826467 035 $a(OCoLC)995470000002514738 035 $a(EXLCZ)995470000002514738 100 $a20070221d1852 ua 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcn||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aAdditional estimate.
