They offer reasons for the greater success of the sector than any other in making better use of labor. They describe the roots - political, organizational, technological, ecological, human - of rising productivity, treating those sources both theoretically and empirically. Comparisons with China show why Europeans came to dominate Asian waters. Building on past research, the volume is a statement of what is known about that critical sector of the early modern European economy and indicates the contribution shipping made to the emergence of the West as the dominant force on the oceans of the world. 410 0$aGlobal economic history series ;$vv. 7. 606 $aShipping$zEurope$xHistory 606 $aLabor productivity$zEurope$xHistory 606 $aEconomic development$zEurope$xHistory 606 $aStevedores$zEurope$xHistory 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aShipping$xHistory. 615 0$aLabor productivity$xHistory. 615 0$aEconomic development$xHistory. 615 0$aStevedores$xHistory. 676 $a387.5/440940903 701 $aUnger$b Richard W$0791216 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910461569503321 996 $aShipping and economic growth 1350-1850$91989802 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03931nam 22005293a 450 001 9910261130703321 005 20250204001104.0 024 8 $ahttps://doi.org/10.7476/9788575415368 035 $a(CKB)4100000002484779 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/41738 035 $a(ScCtBLL)74f5ccf1-21d3-44bd-b5e6-c9367f589e74 035 $a(OCoLC)1105769117 035 $a(oapen)doab41738 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000002484779 100 $a20250204i20052020 uu 101 0 $apor 135 $aurmn|---annan 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aAvessos do prazer : $edrogas, Aids e direitos humanos /$fGilberta Acselrad 210 $cSciELO Books - Editora FIOCRUZ$d2005 210 1$a[s.l.] 606 $aSocial problems$zBrazil 606 $aDrug abuse$zBrazil 606 $aAIDS (Disease)$zBrazil 606 $aHuman rights$zBrazil 607 $aBrazil$xSocial conditions$y1985- 615 0$aSocial problems 615 0$aDrug abuse 615 0$aAIDS (Disease) 615 0$aHuman rights 702 $aAcselrad$b Gilberta 801 0$bScCtBLL 801 1$bScCtBLL 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910261130703321 996 $aAvessos do prazer$94322414 997 $aUNINA
